How do you meet more people/make friends?

    Im in college at the moment and i feel like im stuck in a rut. Stuck with the same group of people i met in first year. How do you break out of that? I want to meet new people and enjoy myself but i cant seem to. Everyone seems to already have there set groups and its impossible to break into them. Clubs or societies are no good as college is over for the summer. Is there anything i can do over the summer to get out and meet people and make friends? Im sick of going to nightclubs and never meeting anyone new.

    Taking up a sport and getting a job are two things that spring to mind. I know the latter ain't wasy as I'm looking for a summer job at the moment but joining a club would be a good idea.
