Bought an item on eBay from the UK 16/4/2010 and it arrived from the UK today 19/4/2010 given that 17th and the 18th were Saturday and Sunday that isn't bad (Posted Friday arrived Monday) and proof the Mail is getting through some how?

Not sure what that proves except that it didn't come by Air Mail even though the guys in the local Post Office keep telling me all parcels go to and from Ireland and the UK by "Air Mail".

All UK-Ireland post goes air mail, but given that the flights are all grounded, I'm sure there's a ferry backup plan in place. Same for mainland Europe. I'd imagine all post is going surface mail now, regardless of whether you request airmail or not.

If they stopped all together, the backlog would quickly get out of control.

    Information from An Post here

Ferry arrangement in place for UK / Ireland both ways.

International mail beyond that is not leaving Ireland at this time.
    Severe restrictions coming in.

I checked with my local post office today and they had no information. It's a damn pity the mail ever left the railways and boats in the first place but planes are 'modern'!

An Post have arrangments with Royal Mail to send mail by boat. Obviously it's not as quick as the airmail as it is still being transported to the same international mail clearing centres that would have been located closer to the airport rather than the ferry port but you should be looking at one days delay at most.

Most if not all of the 48 hour couriers trnasport by boat so no change in service time should be expected.

On the direction Ireland to UK I sent a book back to Amazon on Thursday (15th) and just got notification that Amazon have it back today (20th) Tuesday. So I'd say An Post and Royal Mail are working as well if not better than normal.

Well it seems in the case of my 48 hour courier it's not going to be arriving today :(

The game arrived today, which means it took four days to come.

I bought another game which was posted on Wednesday, so looking at four business days again, it should arrive on Tuesday. :D

My 24hr courier did not arrive today either, it was parcelforce and from past experience 24 is 48hr, and 48 is 3 days. I bought items on chainreactioncycles, these are in the north and usually give free royal mail delivery or you can pay extra for couriered, also if you buy over a certain amount you get free courier. What was strange was my items were only £20 and they gave no option for royal mail, just free 24hr parcelforce.

This led me to thing they were not trusting royal mail and did not want them being badmouthed on forums for having slow delivery due to backlogs.
