    Hi,

I was wondering if I buy an ignition switch from a breakers yard, how do I get it programmed to use the current key from my wives 99 P206?

Do I need to have it completed by a main dealer? as they are looking for about 350 for a new part.

    Hi Mick,
If you get the exact same part it should be just a matter of swapping it out.
The ignition coil that reads the key chip is only a sender so it should'nt need programming...:)
€350.......you'd go along way in buying the car for that price...

So if I get the igntion switch (need to replace the whole ignition barrell, as it is a sealed unti), can I still use the key that I have even if it is programmed for a different VIN number.

Your vin Number is programmed to the Bsi not the ignition barrel.
It should just be a matter of swapping it out as i said the coil is only a
sender of the chip information to the bsi.
If you can swap the key blade on the doner igintion barrel key into your old
key housing this should work...using your original keychip...otherwise you may need to reprogram the second hand key to your car.

    Ron,

What it is,when you are starting the car, the ignition "barrell" no longer stop the key from turing, you have to manually bring te key back, if it only the barrel, and I get a replacement with the key, how do i program this key to work in the car? will it also be then programmed to control the central locking?

    Mick,
Sounds like you igintion switch is goosed alright.

If you use your original key housing and fit the key blade from the ignition barrel (if it fits) then you should'nt need to program the key as its already matched to the bsi/ecu.
its the keychip that allows the car to start or not.

Have you got a remote fob or a regular key...??
    Is it something like these....?
