I have a full time job that I love. I suppose no job is secure in this recession but all going well it should last me a few years.

I have been thinking a lot within the past few months about packing it all in and going away on a one year working holiday visa to australia. Its something that I really want to do. But I have been told not to do it. Giving up work that I love so much is a difficult decision and it's not an easy one to make.

Now I am having problems at home and need to leave and I am stuck in between two things to do.

    1) I could pack everything up and leave to a australia. I could start organising everything this week and be ready to go in about two/three months.

    or

    2) Stay in the job that I have and go renting.

I can't afford to do both. Its either rent or go away. If I go renting I have a feeling that i won't be far away and family can still cause me hassle and also if I go renting australia would definately be out of the question for a long time because renting is going to take up all my wage. I am also approaching 30 in two years time. Age limit for the working holiday visa is 30.

I'd say go, if its something that you really want to do, do it now while you have the chance. ok the job prospects when you get back may not be the same as now, but who knows how the trip will turn out for you, you might get sponsored and stay long term!

I think what I would do is take that chance, the WHV has age limit of 31 the year you arrive, so its only the next 2-3 years you have to do this....

Maybe sit and write out a list of Pros and Cons for going, and the same for staying. That may help. A bad week in work was all it took for me to apply for my visa, 3 months later I was on a plane, and I will never ever regret it. Its better to regret what you have done, that what you have not done in my opinion, and the only regret is that I didnt go for sponsorship or a 2nd year visa....

    Hope this helps!

Have you checked whether your job will give you a career break or leave of absence? If they would, then you could go travelling secure in the knowledge you have a job to come back to.
