    Hiya folks.
I have a question about skype on the iPhone.

Basically, I have an attitude that you don't get a free lunch.

I've downloaded the skype app on my phone, but I'm not sure if I should use it.
Once it's connected to wifi, is it completly free?
Do they charge your apple store account?

If it is free, can I connect to wifi if I'm abroad and make calls?

On the same level, can I down load skype to my wifes iPod touch?
If she has iPhone earphones with a mike, can she use the skype app as a free phone?

Sorry for my complete ignorance, it just seems to good to be true.

Once it's connected to wifi, is it completly free? Yes, if you are calling other skype users. Calling other numbers like landlines, mobiles cost money.
Do they charge your apple store account? See above

The business model for Skype is to lure you in with free calls, in the hope that a certain percentage will purchase credit to make landline/mobile calls.

I am a classic example. I am living abroad and use Skype for free calls to friends/family. As my parents are having major difficulty even switching on a computer (don't get me started :D), I have reverted to buying Skype call credit and calling them directly on the landline.

So is it only free to other skype users then?
I can't phone any mobile or landline?

    Yes.

You can, but it costs. Depending on where you are in the world this could save a LOT of money though.

    Thanks for all your help.

I'll look into the pricing for calls.

I can't phone any mobile or landline? you can, but you have to uy credit. Upside is that (afaik) all calls are charged at local call rate regardless of the distances and countries involved.

Danman - you can also divert your skype to your iphone if your PC is off. it means the caller would be charged (local rate) but you just recieve a call as normal
