im out for this and possibly a long time. tore my groin pretty badly in the first round of the dublin fgaa championship yesterday. i felt it just pop, like it completely just ripped out of the socket. hopefully its not serious, but i think it is, in alot of pain today and can barely walk :(. got injured at exactly the same time last year with my knee cartlidge and ended up missing about 15 games throught the year, hopefully its not as long this time. ideally i will be back in 2-3 weeks but if its serious, could be looking at alot longer.sickened.

as regards this game, this is a massive one. these lads are perhaps the only team weve never beaten that weve played a good few times. however, we aint played them in 3 seasons and our team is much better since the last time we played them. and runs have to come to an end sometime, so lets make it tonight.

a draw would be a good result considering all the results last week, but a win would be super, setting up a 5 point gap already to one of the main challengers is the aim.

they have one lad who gets all their goals but is very markable. he has to be man marked. but lets not concentrate on them, lets concentrate on our own strengths and go out and beat them. theres no pressure on us, so go out and enjoy the game and play to our strengths.

Ah very sorry to hear that Ed, that's an major blow to both you and the team. Good luck with getting it sorted and don't do what I know you'll be tempted to do and get back playing at the earliest possible time - give it time to heal so that you only have to make one comeback.

There's a Dr. Eanna Falvey in the Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry that is one of the top groin specialists in the state, you could do worse than give him a look:

    I'm out.

Did my groin again yesterday. Not as bad as Ed's now but enough to keep me out for tomorrow and force me to walk up the stairs sideways...

Should do well as long as Collie takes all of our set pieces and shoots from long distance at every chance :pac:

Keith if I could get a lift back to Citywest afterwards that'd be much appreciated. I have a lift back to Blessington organized from there.

Good luck tonight lads, I'm too ill to play and unfortunately same applies to coming out to cheer you on. Good chance for Cathal and Dan to stake a claim with both last weeks CHs missing. Hopefully I'll be disappointed afterwards that we finally beat these and I was there!

    Good luck tonight lads

    How'd it go?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Lost 1-2

Outplayed them for the first 10mins and went ahead, then we'd Cathal sent off for a coming together when one of their men was through. It was nothing more than a tangle of legs, but he was last man and it could have looked like a trip.

Anyway, we played really well until deep into the second half, then they got two quick goals due to tired legs and we were robbed.

Gutting it was, but lots of positives. We didn't deserve to lose that game.

    Disaster.

Going down to ten men early in a game it's always going to be hard to not allow the other side space and chances.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,957 ✭✭✭The Volt

I wouldn't be blaming tired legs for that defeat. We had chances to put the game to bed even with 10 men and didn't so.

    Hey.....

tough match tonight....hard result to swallow....we were better than these guys....second half we were tired and it just didnt happen for us.....hard for the 10 guys out on the pitch who gave it there all....

on a slightly different note, quick note to say my short run out with the team is unfortunately coming to and end, and i will have to hang up the boots....

Best of luck lads with the season....there is a good team here and i think you will be up there at the top of table fighting for the championship....

If i get a chance i will look in the odd time to see how your getting on!

    All the best,

    Keith

Man, how frustrating was that??? Like Des said I don't think it was a red card but in hindsight you can understand how the ref gave it as a red card given how it looked. So, these things happen...

We were excellent before that point and definitely on top though we had our work cut out either way as they are a strong side going forward. We did very well overall considering we were a man down for most of the game. Bodes well for the season but doesn't make it any easier to stomach that we got 0 points from that game.

All you can do is say well played lads, that was a decent shift put in and it'll stand us in good stead next week, but it just makes it even more important to focus on getting 3 points in the bag next week.

Hard luck lads. Sounds like an unfortunate defeat.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

long way to go yet lads. sounds like a good performance, but ran out of steam with 10 men....our center halves are getting scarce, i do know dan is suffering big time with an injury at the moment and now catal will get 2 games suspension. hopefully martin is back next week anyway and me the week after.

unfortunately though, no matter what way we look at it, the table will show 3 points dropped :(

Yeah, that was never a straight red, it wasn't even a foul... he pulled at my arm to get past me then ran over my legs. I wasn't looking to play him or impede him in any way, was just focused on getting between the ball and the goal. It was one of those "would-have-been-a-very-brave-ref-not-to-give-it" incidents tho. Ref was delighted to be able to give a straight red for non-violent conduct. But he was wrong.
    a) it wasnt a foul
    b) the only reason the guy got ahead of me was coz he pulled me off balance because i wasn't letting him past me- he fouled me
    c) he wasn't clean through, the ball was played away from goal and he didnt have me for pace. Id have gotten between the ball/him and the goal

If it happened in the world cup final there'd be an outcry for video replays to be introduced! So what about it Des? Demand tracksuit wearing Europa Cup style 4th/5th officials to be introduced at the very least for the winter league.

My foot's in bits today tho... think yer man must have stood on it which is what tripped us both. it feels a lot like the injury that kept me out for most of last summer (without the broken bones). Think u might have jinxed me after all, Mick.

i taught we Had a Very Good Game after we went down to 10 men but in all fairness everytime we went near them they were down and looking for a free kick and i tought that Ken And Dan at centre half for us last night were excellent considering they never played together before.

one other thing i will say is that the talking last night between us was brillant but we still need to let the player on the ball know if someone is coming up his hole and how they are for space to push on.

but all in all it was a very goog team performance and Cathal you you were very unlucky to walk and the result would have been totally differnet if we had 11 on the pitch for the full game.

I agree 100%.... Ken and Dan were solid at the back when we went down to 10 men. Lads, look we are going to get dissensions like these throughout the course of the season but the MOST IMPORTANT thing to take and learn from last night is how to take it on the chin and keep on playing.... THAT'S WHAT WE DID and we now move forward dust ourselves off and prepare mentally for next weeks game (and nothing else) than 3 points will be acceptable..

Really really unlucky. Some terrific counter attacking, teamwork and voices at the back organising during the game. I thought the game got a bit stretched before the first goal, where they won the ball from a rushed throw in and a few passes later, the goal was scored.

Some players I had seen before, but never as driven..really some outstanding performances which merited at the very least a draw. Great hold up play and width.. The winner looked like a deflection onto the post...like Wim Kieft..summed it up.

My 2c...Lads we were very unlucky not to even get a draw, as said above let's take the positives and accept that 1 or 2 games will not go our way this season, this was one of them so let's concentrate on winning the next game.

There was plenty of great football played and it was enjoyable to be part of, we were able to manoeuvre some great flowing moves from defence and midfield up to the strikers by simply keeping the head and looking for a pass to the feet, we know we have that ability so let's use it. Great talking and pressure throughout and I suppose that killer blow at the end made it feel like it was all for nothing but we have shown what we're capable of so onto the next game with the heads held high!

    Conor.
