Rescue club?

Looking to buy a rescue club and would appreciate any opinions / recommendations.

I'm comfortbale hitting my 5wood and irons from 5 up but I just cannot get a good feel for my 3 and 4 irons. Really need something now to cover shots in or around 170 - 180 yards.

Not too familiar with rescue clubs though so does anybody have suggestions?

    Thanks

    What handicap are you?
Any limit in regards to price?

McGuirks site is down, but they have the same deal if that's any use to you.

Very good club at an affordable price.

I have a "4 iron" rescue wood and it's a lot easier to hit than my 4 iron especially out of the rough. I must get one to replace my 3 iron as well.

I have one of the old Taylor Made Hybrids, "Taylor Made Rescue Mid Hybrid" with a graphite shaft
    rescue_mid_large.jpg

The most consistent club in my bag. Can smack it dead straight off the tee and can hit it high and low from just about anywhere.

I'd be interested in seeing how much hybrids have improved since this came out (2004ish i'd say) because I don't see how its possible tbh

Here's some random chap hitting it

    A bit Furykesque.

Some rescue clubs are quite difficult to hit, depending on a player's handicap. Postalservice's TaylorMades were probably the original of the species and were outstanding clubs but, because they had a flat, instead of a V-shaped sole, I found it difficult to get them into the air.

For the average golfer, I don't think there will ever be a better rescue club than the Cleveland Halo. (Purely a personal opinion!)

    Not me btw!!!!

I was demonstrating that even he can hit a perfect shot with that club!

Just to make it clear! Phew!

p.s I do realise he's probably class but yeah.... he's not me haha

I've never really found a hybrid I could hit consistently, but I went to a taylor made demo the other night with McGuirks and, for the craic, tried out their 19 deg Rescue - honestly its like legal cheating its so easy to hit ! My original idea was to replace my 3 iron which is 21 deg and keep my 5 wood but TM only do 19 or 22 and pride won't let me get a 22 degree ! i reckon the 19 might just replace both and allow me put an extra wedge in the bag.
I'm a Cat 1 player so have a reasonable idea what I'm at (sometimes :D), and don't want this to sound like other online reviews where a club changed a players life :)! it was only a demo night in a range and I hit maybe 20 shots with it but definitely consider a hybrid if your long irons are a little off, doesn't really matter what manufacturer, they almost all make decent gear now, get whichever fits your eye.
    My tuppence worth anyway.....

If you like your 5-wood don't rule out a 7-wood, I tried both a 7-wood and a hybrid to replace my 3-iron and hit the 7-wood much better.

I have tried the Taylormade 09 rescue, and it is impressive.
havent tried anymore Hybrids yet, but i will buy one this year sometime.
Every person that i know with a hybrid, swears by it. will improve your game if you choose one that suits.

Rescue/Hybrid is a must. Played my TM Burner 07 3 rescue (19 degrees) out of a fairway bunker over a water hazard to a flag 235 yards away yesterday... try that shot with an iron and Jesus would weep.

I have a 19deg Cleveland hibore xls, looks a little different at set up though I prefer it as it looks less 'wood' like as I had a total mental block about hitting my old fairway wood.
Its incredibly easy to hit from both tight lies and out of semi rough with a lovely flight to the ball.

    +1 on this
i have this club about 9 months and i honestly havn't hit a bad shot with it,it's the most consistant club in my bag, mine is 22 deg but it almost goes as far as my 19 deg taylor made and a lot more consistant

I had to take my 19degree rescue out of my bag last year as I couldn't hit it to save my life. Topped an awful lot of shots with it.
After adjusting my swing & slowing down my back swing I can now say it's one of my best clubs and most consistent! It's only a cheapo that came with original set and is next on list for upgrade

just another question on rescue clubs, I am not not a very good golfer (play off 26 in a society) but can hit my 3 and 5 woods very well and i am quite comfortable playing them. what is the differance between these and a rescue club and would it be worth my while getting one?

Tested one out last week and it was so good I had to buy it. I was reaching greens in two where previously I was always a bit short. As said before, don't want to say "it changed my game", but am definitely looking forward to getting out a bit more to see how it goes.
Having bought the Cleveland HiBore Monster Driver & matching 3w last year, I needed to get either the 5w or a hybrid to fill the gap.
The 19 deg Hybrid was only €90 in GolfStyle in Galway, versus €149 for the 5w, so it was a no brainer after trying it out.
Better than the 5w IMO as it can be hit from more difficult lies.

Oh, I play off 22 and reckon this will hopefully lead to me shooting some good scores over the next few months.
