Focus Diesel

    Hi everyone

I have a buyer offering me 2.5k on my 2002 Primera Accenta 1.6 with 120k miles on clock.

This clears the way for me to buy a Focus as a cash deal.

I am looking at a 2008 (new model) 1.6tdci zetec with 40k miles on the clock. It is in a Ford Garage but i believe it is a UK import. I do about 12k miles a year. I have seen some people on here say that at this mileage, diesel does not make sense. I was going for a diesel for lighter fuel consumption plus the 104e road tax. Am i mad buying a diesel? I have always driven petrol.

The sticker price on this car is 15,950e which seems very excessive to me given the mileage and the fact the car is 2 years old. A couple months back the car was at 16500e and i offered my car as a trade in with a new NCT plus 12k euro and they did not come back to me on that offer.

Now as it is a straight cash deal, i am thinking of offering 13k. i would not be prepared to go higher than this based on the mileage, year etc. Also do you think i should have my own mechanic look over the car as i would not be very knowledgable in these issues. Would the timing belt need looking at?

    Any advice appreciated.;)

€16k is one of the highest prices for a 08 Focus on carzone, that car is way over priced and that is why it hasn't sold. I know someone who imported a similar car from the North last year and cleared it for €14k. I would expect to clear a 09 for that money now.

Here is a nice looking pre facelifted model going for alot less:

BTW the belt on the 1.6 TDCi/HDi engine doesn't need to be changed until 100k miles afaik.

Afair the 1.6TDCI comes with 88bhp or 107bhp, with the 107 (mostly UK imports here) commanding better prices.

Thanks for that info. I would not consider the pre facelifted model as it really is looking dated at this stage.

I did check out carzone before posting and realise that what is asked is one of the dearest on there that is why i would try and get a good cash deal by talking about the high mileage for the year and also that soon enough there will be an all new focus on the market.

Cash is king at the minute, and your in a very good position to bargain now that your not trading in.

Offer what you think the car is worth, give the dealer your name and number on a piece of paper, tell him to get back to you before friday and walk out. If you do this in a few dealers, your bound to get a bargain somewhere. Its worked for a few people recently too, dealers are dieing to get cash in.
