Oh What To Wear - Major Advice needed

Hey,

I'm looking for something to wear to a family party. Its my Dad's 60th Birthday and his retirement all in the one DAY so we are having a Mahoosive party for him.

So here is the thing I need a outfit that will cover such an event. Also is important that it will be suitable for both the party and the family dinner we are having before hand.

Also VIP is that we are getting our family portrait done and I don't want to be wearing something that i'll look back in 3 years tima and think what was I doing!!

I'm a size 16/18 and have quite a quirky style a bit of Carrie meets Charlotte from SATC I love to be girly and flrity looking but can still do conservative nice if youe get me.

Any help would be grealty appreciated!!

I'm thinking a kinda floral summer dress with cardigan for dinner.
I know that sounds dull but the colours and patterns you use can make it stand out. I don't know if your top heavy or have bigger hips so can't really link you to a specific dress. But just to give you an idea something like this

with a simple cardian over it and heels. You could mousse your hair in a messy up do if its long, then put it down for the party. Minus the cardi of course.

I think the look above is too casual for such a big party (just IMO) Lookbook is full of skinny minnies/hipsters so probably not the best place for fashion inspiration for a curvy girl who likes SATC fashion :P

OP have you looked on ASOS for dresses? They have something for every occassion. I would probably go for a skirt and cute blouse/top tucked in and some nice heels. You can make it into a party outfit by adding accessories and such, or changing a blazer to a pretty little jacket or Cardigan, etc. For shoes I would look in Topshop they have some gorgeous shoes in store right now.

I'm a similar size to you (14 on top, 16 on bottom) and had a similar dilemma a few months ago so I just brought some extra accessories to help my outfit go from a day to night look

Oh and I agree with the other poster about the hair. You could do it in a pretty up-do for the first half of the day then take it out for the second part.

The LBD nees to be brought out for this. It will work for a (formal'ish) family dinner, it will look great at a party and it won't date in photographs as quickly as anything else. It's easy to dress up or down.
Go for the classic look, get the little black dress. You know it makes sense.

Buy online in sterling, much cheaper. Put a nice beaded cardi over it for dinner and photo's, and a good high pair of heels.

This is definitely an LBD occasion!

You can put your own personality into it with how you accessorise , and it will look great in a photo

Hey, if it were me I'd go for a LBD aswell and for the dinner wear a red cardigan and maybe a red rose in my hair.

As was said before a LBD wont date too badly for the picture but just add your own style in accessories etc!
