right so the opel astra I temporarily have (99 hatchback) stopped on me (on the way home from a boards meet) , it all started when i was driving along and the oil light started flickering on and off (would only come on when i stopped accelerating) so i pulled over into the hard shoulder to take a look, where it had been half full of oil 6 hours previous, it was almost empty , so another kind boardsie got me some oil and i put it in , tried turning over the astra and the solenoid was working but not the starter motor (out of gear, handbrake on) now the temp gauge was in normal range while trying this, thereis fuel in the car but its just not turning over ,any suggestions ? going back at 1am to try jump/push start it

Please tell me you didn't leave it on the hard shoulder of a motorway...get the AA out or tow it, anything; it's a hazard where it is.

Its on the H/S of the N7 on a straight and I suspect we're gonna tow it off if it doesn't start later (I'm the one who turned up with oil...)
