Surely it must be easy to get a job in the Social Welfare?

Considering their workers seem to be by and large vastly incompetent, taking months and months to process claims that they say will take days, and that on top of this they insist of childish strike action, surely it can't be that hard to get a job there?

I'm aware they are not paid a great wage, but I would happily take their job, perform it to a better standard and not strike. It's ironic that these people are dealing with (or supposed to be) thousands of unemployed people who would jump at the opportunity of work. Well I say ironic, I mean disgusting.

Why didn't you apply for the last open competition then?

Seriously fionn, build a bridge. The facts are simple
    • you were on UA on the higher rate
    • you wanted to go abroad for your birthday
    • you asked for advice and were told to apply in advance for holiday
    • you chose to ignore them
    • you missed your sign in date
    • you didnt bother to inform the dept on your return
    • your case was closed
    • your new application is now on the lower rate
ALL OF THIS IS YOUR FAULT.

Frankly your constant crabbing is boring at this stage. The offices are busy dealing with people who are motivated enough to turn up for their sign in dates and appointments.

I suggest you check fionns previous posts.

    Hi,

Perhaps you've been in a coma for the past couple of years, or most likely would rather misrepresent the situation in an attempt to add weight to your "argument", but at the moment there is a little thing known as a staff embargo. In case you don't understand, a staff embargo means that nobody can get a job there or anywhere in the public service. Now, keeping the recruitment freeze in mind, lets also consider the governments offer of early retirement and career break packages, along with people who have simply reached retirement age. People leave and are not replaced. Therefore those who are left are expected to continue providing the same level of service with less people.

To add to that, these people are also expected to carry out the same level of service with less people and less money as they have had their wages, which you admit are poor, cut by the government. There is no "childish strike action" happening. It is called a work to rule. This does not mean they sit around having chats, playing cards etc. They do the job they were hired to do and they don't take on any extra responsibility that is there due to the absences of colleagues. They are trying to protect their jobs and wages, are you telling me you wouldn't do the same?

Am I suggesting the social welfare department doesn't need improvement? Absolutely not. Like all areas of the public sector, reform is needed and should happen in a fair and sensible way. Cutting wages and not replacing staff is not the way to reform the service.

Feel free to dismiss this with the old "every single person in the public sector is a lazy bastard and I could do that job much better than them" line as it seems to be more what you're after.

Government jobs are great they have a pension, good enough money and good time off. In all my dealings with tax offices etc the staff hadnt a great attitude. Going on strike is ridiculous your boss is broke so no pay rises.

Who is looking for a payrise? I want a guarantee that my pathetic wages (and yes, they are pathetic) aren't going to be hammered again.

Also, people REALLY need to learn the difference between a strike and a work-to-rule.

Chinafoot, why let fact get in the way of a good rant?- After all this is all because the OP wanted to celebrate his birthday and then it was too cold to go all the way down to the dole office and explain why he missed his signing.

Apparantly its everyone elses fault. :pac:

Ah, Fionn...... you poor pet. I really do feel sorry for you. You really are incapable of comprehending that you were the creator of your own percieved misfortunes.

Yeah, it's brilliant working in Social Welfare. The money is fantastic, we get a 10% pay rise every fortnight, and we don't have much work at all. In fact the only work we do is to stop people's payments when they don't sign on. For reasons like not coming to the office to apply for holiday leave when they wanted time off to celebrate a birthday. Even though they were advised to do so - sound familiar???

By the way, did you apply for the recent temporary positions in the Public Service - what's the betting you didn't???!!

I think you are a troll, so I will not be feeding you any more, because I really don't believe anyone with any shred of intelligence could continue their campaign of nonsense against staff of an organisation who were doing their duty correctly.

I note that you start these nonsensical posts, and then post no more. Troll - a smart one at that.

Perform it to a better standard Fionn? LoL. You couldn't even go down to the S/W Office to sign in and get your free money, and you think that you could work to a better standard? Cheers for making me smile :D

Where has OP stated in the OP's post that they wanted to make a claim

If the people are reading posts wrong here.

There's not much hope for the people in S/W reading any claim form correctly.

    dh661,
The op is a regular disgruntled poster in the social welfare forum. He has a big old issue with the dept of SW because he didn't sign on, or take holiday leave, or go down to the office and explain himself (get the picture?)...............

go through his previous posts but my initial post on this thread sums it up .

My mom works for the Social Welfare. She could sit you down for days and tell you stories about complete assholes who take advantage of this country on a daily basis... these are people who she knows work on the sly and claim, and she can't say anything about it because she worries everyday someone will do something awful to her or the family. She could also easily admit that her pay isn't exactly anything to be desired. She also notices she has so many fake friends, who appear to only ever want her so she can fill up forms etc.

    Really like, cop on!

When I was out of work I had nothing but help from my social welfare office...

OP , get a life Junior , and take responsibilty for your own f**K ups

Poor op. No sympathy in the social welfare forum. No sympathy in this forum. Poor chappy even tried the ol' 'incompetent civil servants' angle. Usually a sure fire winner.

I love how the excuses for missing the signing went from "I'm going home for my birthday", to "I had to go to Ennis to see my grandmother" to "I was flying back and forth from England.

    Classic.
