My wife & I moved here (Galway, Ireland) from Canada as a result of a position offered at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The problem now is I am not allowed to seek employment. I am looking for part-time employment 10-15 hours a week. I am a visual artist and require the remaining time in the studio & other commitments. Apparently from what I understand I can work if offered a position. I can not assume going into a posted job opportunity for the 10-15 hours weekly, that upon getting the position, telling the employer that I now need a number of forms filled out, (That say I have been offered the job) then send these forms to Dublin for approval, wait for their return and then send these forms off to the GNIB office here in Galway. (which I have been told will take about 6-8 weeks) upon which time I will receive a new GNIB card with the permission to work. I think it would be ridiculous to think that an employer would bother with the hassle when he could bring someone in to start the next day.
So my question here is; is there another method or way of going about this?

What does a visual artist do? Is it possible for you to work from home over the internet?

Are you allowed work as self-employed?

    Hi Victor,
I am primarily a painter. I do sell my work but there is often a lot of time between sales. To account for this I usually pick up a part time job.
    cheers,
    Simon
