    Hi all,

I started this story on 2 other threads, but I hope you will forgive me for giving it a little more direct attention. I know it won't affect many other people, but I just want to express the injustice I feel!

I bought my SkyHD box in 2007 independently of Sky because I didn't trust them to do an install. Then obviously I started paying them for the HD subscription. Since there is a current offer for the new improved HD box I hoped I would qualify since Sky never sold me a box, though I confess I suspected my circumstances would be unusual.

So, after 20 minutes on the phone to 2 admittedly pleasant people in Sky...

The upgrade department entered my details and said I qualified with just a €30 install charge... Yes... then got to the next step where adding the HD service was required, except that I had it already so the price jumped to €159... No. So I asked whether canceling the HD service would make it eligible... Maybe... I would need to talk to cancellations and see what they might do.

The cancellation dept was rather puzzled, and the guy went away for 5 minutes to discuss it with someone. Then he says ...No... He said that even if I cancel HD I will still be marked as having had it once and will not get any subsidised box in the future. I'm somewhat doubtful about this though since the upgrade people seemed to initially see me as eligible, at the step where you would expect such a check to be made.

Anyhow, I'll think about this. Maybe I'll cancel HD during the Summer, though at that point I'm sure the free offer will be gone and even if my plan works, I may have to pay 60 for the box and maybe 60 install, which is going to get close to the 159 offer.

    Rant...rant...rant.

    Ix.

You're still actually getting a subsidised offer. The RRP for the box is €449.

Yes, I do understand that, and so I'm trying to have a rather restrained rant. I just feel a little hard done by after paying €449 (I think that's what it was) without Sky assistance and now being unable to avail of this offer.

Also it's the lack of certainty that annoys me. As I mentioned the upgrade department initially sees me as eligible, so that suggests that canceling HD would allow me to avail of future offers. However the cancellation department thinks not... but are not sure.

    Ix.
