    Hi,

    I am going to an event in July in the UK, i am not planning but wondering if it is allowed or practical to take an AEG onto the carry ferry to the UK and back to Ireland?

    I will of course stow the AEG and keep it out of site in my jeep but has anyone out there ever done this? Did customs stop you and take it off you or worse?

    I would love to take the AEG there and back to Ireland but of course do not want to get it taken from me.

    I know they are legal in both countries but want to ask anyway. Any help or feedback is much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Abram

    You should have no probs at all, you will however have to declare it to the ferry personnel when your going in, they might get the harbour cops to do a quick inspection of it before sending you on your way. :)

    Irish ferries will not allow you to take an AEG on board, Stena line will.

    Your supposed to declare it as if they xray your bag as security are entitled to do and you havent declared it then you will more then likely miss your ferry and have to explain to some annoyed Gardai why you didnt declare it to them in the first place, cause they dont like being called to deal with gun calls that turn out to be airsoft guns. They again ive yet to see them in any way check the contents of cars going onto the ferries over here.

    Errrr .... Irish Ferries will allow you. I've used them umpteen times.

    It's always best to declare these things, while you may get through just fine without informing harbour police, if you are found to be carrying a replica firearm without declaring it, it'll cause a lot more hassle than going through the process of declaring.
    Also, we've always gotten priority boarding for free because of declaring. :D

    Two key things I've picked up on having travelled back and forth a few times and also having to deal with Gardai on the Irish side as a representative of the IAA after a member had issues at the welsh port;

    When talking to security/harbour police/checkin staff, say you are carrying "Imitation firearms", replica for some reason seems to make people think of blank firers and de-act's, which then starts them worrying about it's ability to fire live rounds etc...

    If asked are you carrying ammunition, say no, although airsoft guns fire BB's, they are not ammunition in the traditional sense (i.e. they contain no gun powder).

    Also, use common sense, pack your kit in an appropriate manner, use a rifle case, preferably a hard one if you have it and pack your AEG's last, nearest the boot opening so that you can remove them if/when asked. Having to pull all your kit out of the boot at the port is not fun.
