Why is it better to swing with your left hand on top as opposed to the hurlers swing with the right hand on top?

i'm 28 playing golf for the last 15 years with the hurling grip, playing of 18, i changed my grip over the winter( driving range 3 nights a week 120 balls each night, for the 1st week i just brought a wedge with me, my handicap is now down to 15 and id say it will be at least 4 shots lower by the end of the summer.

Probably easier to release the hands through the ball. From experience of playing with people the conventional grip results in longer and more powerful shots.

Because you can play better golf if you play with left hand on top.

Human anatomy and biomechanics. The golf swing is predominantly powered by the large hip and trunk muscles during the turn - hitting the ball with the left shoulder higher than the right and with hips and shoulders slightly open. This leaves the left shoulder further from the ball then the rigth one. The difference is countered by having the left hand reach less further down the shaft than the right one.

Left below right means you cannot achieve the optimum turn of the upper body without a telescopic left arm. Most of us dont have one. Left below right players rely on a wrist snap to close the club head and gain some power - but they will never make up the power lost through lack of a full turn, and add inconsistency since they are relying on timing a deliberate flick of the wrists correctly.
