When someone takes the stand in a court of law must they swear to tell the truth etc. on the Bible if they do not wish to.
I am thinking of people of other Faiths or no faith.

Could someone, for example, refuse to swear on the Bible or would they be in contempt of court?

For a quick answer, no you don't have to swear on the bible.

Studied the alternatives in Evidence a few years back but since then I've forgotten most of them - I'd say plenty of the forum regulars would be able to expand on this
