I have the Doring Kindersley book & it was pretty good. We've been to the area heaps of times & I would recommend..

Oceanopolis in Brest is one of the most fantastic aquariums I’ve ever been to.

Quimper is such a pretty city/town – all medieval beams and lace making.

There’s a great zoo at Pont Scorff outside Lorient.

Closer to St Jean de Monts, there’s a zoo called Planete Sauvage which also does jeep safaris, an aquarium in Noirmoutier, a place called Puy du Fou and Futuroscope near Poitiers.

Nantes is a gorgeous city with a great tram system to get around. Great shops and you can ride a mechnical elephant – seriously!

Also a drive down to La Baule and Guerande is lovely – it’s where they harvest the salt. And St. Nazaire is great for anybody interested in planes or boats

Less expensive than in Ireland, perhaps by about 20-25%. A certain amount depends on what sort of food you like. Seafood is particularly good in Brittany.

Personally I find it half the price of here. Set menus are always a great option - about €20 pp for 3 courses & coffee. Just stay away from the seafood platters...

    Carnac is lovely.

Make sure you see the standing stones outside the town. Brilliant.

The Presquille de Quiberon (Quiberon Peninsula) is also lovely but has got quite built up in recent years. The Cote Sauvage side (Atlantic) is really beautiful on a very windy day (which you may experience in Brittany).

Allow yourself time to drive up to the Crozon Peninsula (just south of Brest). This is a lovely area and is speckled with Irish connections including the Sligo Roundabout and the church of St. Fiacre.

On the way back, stop in Locronan, which appears in the book "The most beautiful villages in France".

Vannes isn't too far from Carnac and is a beautiful port town. About 20 minutes or so beyond Vannes is Zoo Parc de Beauval which is also worth a visit.

South of Vannes is the town of St. Nazare with its wonderful bridge. If you like bridges then you should like this, its 3km long if I remember correctly.

How about renting an apartment from a company like Belambra who have s/c apartments in Batz sur Mer

Or there's Pierre et Vacances who have places all over Brittany
