Well lads, which would ye rather from a wrestling promotion?

A TV show with really good, strong characters with great angles a build up to the matches, but average quality in-ring action?

Or a show with great wrestlers and matches but without any great storylines and build?

Which would you prefer? 13 votes

Engaging storylines and characters with average wrestling

Great wrestling without any really interesting storylines or angles

As much as I love mat-wrestling (see the wBw roster!!) i'd trade it all for the awesome characters, storylines and booking of the Attitude Era. I'd rather 10 Rocks than 10 KENTAs! If a match has no build-up and proper reason to fight; there's no draw months and months down the line. Of course it's great to marry the two, but great characters and storylines are much more engaging than what goes on in the ring, and enhances every story told inside the ring.....hence me loving WWE > DGUSA...

It's amazing characters like Jericho and Punk that keep me coming back to WWE.

For me Pro Wrestling was always about the build. It gave you a reason to be interested in the match.

Sure I'd love every match to be ****+ but a well planned build with interesting and believable characters that you can invest emotion in can make a match great without the wrestling being off the charts.

The Austin and McMahon feud for example.

In a straight choice I'd have to choose workrate I think.

Basically I enjoy Puro and ROH more than Attitude era style wrestling, which is the basic choice given in the poll. But theres not a whole lot in it. I enjoy both.

Ideally of course you'd have both, but I can't really think of a promotion that ever successfully married the two.

I assume WWE is the Strong Charachters and Angles option.

Thats the option i would pick. We get some great TV and then the guys with the most in ring takent shiowcase it on PPVs. I like matches that have the big build like Cena v Orton in the I quit match. Not the best in the ring for Pure work rate but it was a great story they told in their match.

I can't put it better than:

Ideally a mixture of both, like the Brock/Angle feud from years back.

Tbh, its all about the story, buildup, promos and excitement, wrestling is a show, not a competitive sport, take away the presentation and I couldnt really care less about the two guys in the ring. You can be the best, most technical wrestler or the best high flying spot monkey but if you have personality of a dishcloth then nobody will care about you.

Take The Rock, was never the best technical wrestler and had some horrible selling at times, but hes still more over than the majority of the WWE roster, and he hasnt wrestled in 6 years.

If I had to pick I'd go with wrestling but I can never understand why a happy medium can very rarely if ever be found.

Ideally both but if I had to pick, I'd go with the first one.

Think I'd go with the first option also. If TNA produces the best wrestling but with the same lousy writing then I don't think I can enjoy it.

Last time I think WWE had the formula right was when Heyman was booking Smackdown and they had the likes of Brock, Angle, Benoit, Rey, Edge, Eddie etc. Phenomenal talent and good storylines.

I personally voted for workrate.. Ideally a good mix of both would be the ideal situation, but i much prefer great wrestling than amazing storylines with crappy wrestling, if i wanted great storylines i'll watch the Wire or Lost tbh

While it'd be nice to have both, if I had to choose, I'd probably go with great, engaging storylines. If a wrestler has great talent, but all the charisma of a sponge, I'm not particularly inclined to watch his promos and the like. However, if they are very charismatic, but have zero actual ability, I doubt They need at least some ability though, not constantly needing to rely on their opponent to carry them in the match.
