Apologies if this has been discussed already but i just wanted to get peoples opinions of the new political party in California looking a full ballot status soon enough, the American Third Position Party. From what i could see on their site they seem to be very similar to the BNP in terms of policy but i suppose it was only a matter of time really before some extremist elements in the GOP would branch off and put their over the top ideals in a manifesto.

    Whats everyone think?

Don't the Republicans make them kind of redundant?

Yeh funny you should mention that because as a third position party they're supposed to be running on a policy of middle political ground, the third position is neither left nor right however in these guys cases they are, if anything, uber right so i dont really get the point.

America is basically a two party state. No other party has the funds to break through advertising costs etc.

Youre right to an extent but you underestimate the power certain lesser parties have(The Tea Baggers despite their ridiculous name are one of a few small parties that are causing a lot of problems) and also the extent to which parties like this can draw funding from interested lobbyists.

Essentially though youre spot on they're never going to be a third party but even still.

American politics has always been rife with factionalism. In the Dems you have the Liberals, the black interest, the Hispanic interest, the feminist interest, the socialist wing, the conservative wing (Blue Dogs) etc. etc.

The Republicans have the religious right, libertarians, moderates, neoconservatives (Not so much anymore), hell, even the occasional 'Liberal' Republican.

The tea partiers are a strange innovation in American politics and I think in the long run they will damage the Republican party, much like the violent anti war crowd ruined McGovern in 1972.

They are at least right about the 1st amendment and tax, but who knows what their real agenda is.
