I've downloaded a large file through rapidshare, which came down in 5 .rar parts, now on a windows machine when you extract these files they combine into one file for playing, however when i do it now that i've changed to ubuntu, it unwraps as five 30 minute parts, any idea how i can get it to unwrap same as i'm used to.

    According to the google machine:

"Go to Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and paste this:

    sudo apt-get install unrar

This will install unrar. Now go to your .r00 file and double click it. It will open in Archive manager and it will let you unrar it! All the other files (.r01, .r02, etc) will be automatically combined"

There's a package called unrar, which might handle that for you. You can find it in Synaptic package manager.

Okay so where i'm at with this is, i got it to unwrap, and the parts combined into one file, only problem is because i had 9 parts i got 9 copies of the file at 1gb each, so to get a 1gb file i have to have 10gb of free space? anybody know what i'm doing wrong? please remember that i'm brand spanking new to linux so don't know my way around terminal commands just yet.

Did you open each one by double-clicking on it individually? You should only have to double-click the first one in the series (.r00 or whatever) to extract them all into one file.
