Well all, with de fine weather de last week we finally got the slurry out with the new tank on wednesday and yesterday!:) (I even got yesterday off school:D) All went grand now but there were a few hitchs on the way as its my first time spreadin slurry!!

First thing on wednesday even the was a slight problem wen she was sucking slurry! It was buildin up huge pressure on the clock and it was taking it an age to fill! At one stage i had to turn off pto and release pressure and den go again sucking!!:o I knew it was takin too long to fill and it shouldnt be buildin up so much pressure but i kept goin as i wasnt fully sure (first time spreadin slurry!) I also noticed hat i seemed to be ages puttin out tanks of slurry dat evenin!! It would still suck but at a painfully slow rate!!

But we all learn from our mistakes!!;) I'm pretty sure it was the pipe that was too near the bottom of the tank!!?? First thing the next mornin it was worse!! It ended up blowin a sheer bolt by the end!!:o I then knew ther was something definitly wrong!! After that i changed the way it was in the tank and the difference was huge!!

Wen i got it goin right yesterday mornin it was fillin twice as quick and no more pressure (than there should be) buildin up wen it was sucking and the pump sounded normal!!:) I was flyin it from there and i got a mighty days work done flat out spreadin away!!:) Could it be the pipe which caused this?

Also anyone got any experience wit de oiler on the major tanks it said to set it to 1 drop per 3 seconds which i did but i found that it never stayed at that and every time the pump was runnin it went back to say one drop every 10 seconds!! Is this common as i tightened the nut and all on it?

Ya if the hose touches the bottem of the pit it wont suck so pull tractor forward a few feet other things that cause it would be tank drawing air ie .
crack in hose or stone stuck under back gate sluce or if rubber seal fell out of hose.
If it is none of the above might have to replace veins in the pump.
Not sure the rate of oil but once it is dropping oil cant be too bad just keep an eye on it.;)

Tanks ya well its a new tank so the hose isnt cracked and the seal is there!!:) Definitly no stone there either I checked dat!! I think myself it was the hose that was too near the bottom of the tank!! Wen i changed it the next mornin i put it in so that about a foot or two of the hose was actually lying on the floor of the tank if ya no wat i mean and i was flyin it after dat!!:D

a cute trick which prevents the pipe sticking to the floor of the tank is to cut a triangle in the end of the pipe , another option is to bolt a short piece ( 12 inches ) of flat steel to the end of it so it protrudes and keeps the pipe above ground at all times

regarding the volume of oil flowing , 40 drops per min is the optimum level

Tanks "irishh_bob" dat sounds like a good idea with the pipe alright!!:) Ya de only ting wit the oiler is setting it to 1 drop every three seconds! It seems to change while the pump is runnin?

Id go with the cut in the pipe. The steel is a good idea too but if ya loose the bar in the tank it could damage the agitator or even get sucked up and spread on a meadow where "as sure as there's sh1t in a jennet" a harvester or baler will pick it up and break somethin.
