I played Macreddin this evening(just 9)and i have to say if anyone knows of a course in Ireland with better greens i would gladly travel a long way to sample them
they are so true,so smooth, what a pity the place is in admin, does anyone have any info on current situation,i think one of the lads who posts in this forum is a member(Daithi09 me thinks)
So has anyone on here played it and secondly is there a course with better greens?

Couldnt agree more, the best greens I have ever played on by a mile. Which 9 did you play ? As far as I know you can join it on an annual basis for €1k , or maybe that was only offered to the previous members. Its still in liquidation as far as i knew.

Cracking course and a huge pity

played the more hilly b9,the last 4 holes along with the 12(sig hole)are all quality, the par 5 across the ravine was a bit gimicky i thought but all in all on a night like tonight it was awe inspiring even for grumpy heavyballs:D

Hve not played Macreddin yet - but was very impressed with the greens in Moyvalley last month.

Unfortunately that is another course that is allegedly experiencing difficulties.

    Ha Ha good man:D

The back 9 although more hilly than the front is the better of it. How is the place looking? Are they keeping it nice or has it been let go any ? How much was it for 9 if ye dont mind me asking ?

i have a friend who works in the hotel so it didn't cost a penny, the place looks in good nick ,they had problems with a couple of the bridges on the b9 collapsing from the rain at the start of the year so they had to sort out temp one's,it's doing quite well with society's which surprises me a bit as it is hilly
but on a night like tonight you couldn't feel a hill
if it had been pisssin down i'd probably need a massage off the misses

Castleknock has the best greens I've played in this country. Haven't played Macreddin yet.

My three would be Knightsbrook, Moyvalley and Castleknock. I feel those three have top quality greens. All new courses so that may have something to do with it also.

Edit: Not played Macreddin so cant comment, but really want to get down there, although it mightn't be this year. Photos look great, 1st hole seems interesting.

Friends of mine played a four ball in Douglas last week and they reckon that the greens there are the best they've played on in the last few years.

Royal Dublin prob has the best greens ive come across. They have been absolutly immaculate any time ive played them. Honourable mention goes to Slieve Rusell in Cavan. Brilliant greens, brilliant course. European Club has very good (and very very fast) greens too. At least the day I played they were.

By the way - anyone played Howth lately? Played yesterday and the greens were so firm and dry that they held nothing, even with sand/lob wedge shots. On some holes you had to land the ball short of the green and hope it hangs on! Very good green complexes tho.

Waterville and Ballybunion (old and new), the greens are always in immaculate condition anytime I've played there, with Waterville's greens been the fastest.
I have to say the greens I've been most disappointed with were Killarney's (Killeen), I played there four or five times last year and once this year so far and everytime I've played there the greens looked fantastic but were really slow.
Btw OP I'm not a member in Macreddin, but I hope to play there some time.

Adare has to have one of the best greens in the country also.
Played there recently and if you miss a putt you only have yourself to blame.

I'll also add Tralee to the courses already mentioned. Fabulous greens.

A mate of mine was raving about it recently so I'd love to play Macreddin. Pops up on Teetimes.ie specials sometimes for approx €20.

Played both Headforts the other day and the greens on the old were just spectacular!:D

The greens that really stood out for me were Monty's course at Carton House, Skellig Bay and Knightsbrook. Blarney's were superb at the time (2007), but not sure what they'd be like now.

All the links courses had great greens with Ballybunion and Waterville being exceptional
