Broken PC

Basically my computer won't turn out. It's about 3 years old and was working fine it had a couple of bouts where it would not turn on for a couple of hours but nothing serious, I haven't been able to turn it on for over a week now :( It is of course plugged in and the socket works so it's not an issue over that either.

Any ideas would be welcome. I'm assuming it might be something to do with the powersource but don't know enough about computers to have a root around.

    Thanks

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the motherboard. But it could be anything! Best bring it to someone who knows about pcs!

Have you tried resetting the BIOS?

    Unplug the computer
Remove the battery from the motherboard
Short the connectors on the battery holder using something like the top of a non-magnetic screwdriver
While doing so press and hold the power button of the computer
    Replace the battery
    Replace the power cord
    Turn on (hopefully) the computer

Warning, it is entirely possible that you may inadvertently damage something while doing this so I advise you to be careful. If something explodes then it's your fault not mine. Of course, I've never actually seen anything go wrong before (even when I talked my technophobe sister through this procedure over the phone) but the possibility is always there.
