After being on Job Seekers allowance for a few months I now have job (for at least 6 months anyway)

Do I have to inform the social welfare office to stop my payments or will they automatically stop because I am no longer collecting it from the post office every week?

You need to inform them. You can call in, phone or sign off online under your offices link on the contact us part of www.welfare.ie. Otherwise you may have an overpayment.
Congrats on the job by the way.

Call into them if you can and let them know, they'll post you out a cheque for whatever days you're owed between you last payment and your starting date of employment.

And congrats on the job, its a tough slog out there at the moment!

Edit: cAr0l beat me to it!

Don't call in ffs - you'll be queueing for ages. Write them a letter.

Not if you go in in the afternoon. have found that sw offices tend to be packed in the mornings but relatively quiet in the afternoon.
