How To Petition The Change of a Street Name

Does anyone know how I go about petitioning to have the name of our street changed?

I know in Ballymun they were able to have a road changed to Glasnevin Avenue (even though its really not near Glasnevin.) Apparently the residents got together to do it.

Our situation: The name of the street is for example 'Old Crappy Road' when in fact its nowhere near the real 'Crappy Road' in 'Crappy Town.' Its actually in Nice Town :pac:.

A house on our road went up for sale at €750,000 and the EA went in an around about way to give the house a different adress to omit the actual road name because its so bad. Recently we went to sell our house and was told that even though we had 2 extra bedrooms to the house directly behind, ours was the same sale price because we had such an undesirable street name. Fair enough if we actually lived there but its just the name of the road.

Aside from the above, we constantly get the wrong mail, people turning up at our house thinking they are at 'Crappy Road' and some internet sites don't even recognise our address, thinking we must mean 'Crappy Road.'

    Help.
