    hi all,

I'm heading to Galway city for a weekend soon and haven't been in years!! I love a really good coffee and so always drink coffee from the same spot in my home town so, what I want to know is where can I find a really good coffee in Galway city without having to be disappointed at being served a cup of coloured water masquerading as a coffee...all suggestions welcome :)

oh! and if you could suggest where I'd get a good mocha too my OH would be most impressed :)

There's a place called Cafe Express on Shop St, it does takeaway and there's seats outside and they do a pretty good coffee and a very nice mocha, although the last time I was there I was a bit disappointed they can usually be counted on.

Java's does good coffee too, they do a really nice iced americano with some mint syrup but the coffee in there can be a little hit and miss depending on who's working and how busy they are, and they really take their time (sit downstairs to get served faster). They have some great food too.

Buon Appetito has very good coffee, I don't like their mochas much but their regular coffee is excellent. They're really the only 3 places I can think of that do decent coffee

I think the best place in Galway for coffee is Renzo café, on Eyre st. Their coffee is the real thing, prepared in front of you, and they have an amazing selection of freshly baked cakes and home made chocolates to go with it!

Oh seriously, try the lemon cake. Y.U.M.;)

Best in Galway for me is Arabica. Fantastic coffee.

Arabica near the cornstore is currently doing €1 coffees. Don't know if it'll still be going on when you're here but if it is then try one. I really don't like their coffee to be honest, find it very bland but if it's only a euro you may as well try it.

arabica coffee house is normally of fairly high standard.

personally i find their food terrible, but would happily go an hour out of my way to get a coffe from there.

I find that McCambridges on Shop Street does a good coffee. I've also heard a few people say that Butlers does a good coffee.

Just on the subject of Arabica, I found this quite strange.

With the €1 coffee deal I've gone their for coffee for the last two days. Yesterday my coffee was fantastic, the milk was perfectly foamed, it had a strong coffee taste and was nicely decorated on top. I went again today expecting another good coffee but todays was awful. First it took ages to come even though the cafe wasn't busy at all, when it finally got to me it was all slopped over the top of the cup onto the saucer, the milk wasn't foamed enough so my coffee was overly milky and it tasted of nothing.

I'm going to keep going there until the €1 deal is over so it'll be interesting to see if I can get another great coffee like I did yesterday.
