Where to get gear

Im just wondering where everybody gets their gear...? Im currently looking for a new bow, (compound with all the trimmings) and Im on a budget of about 900 quid... I can go higher if need be...

The general plan is just to get the best bow I can get. And then the rest of the stuff, stablisers, sights etc just get the cheapest there is and then every few weeks replace them with better ones bit by bit...

Anyway I see alot of seemingly pretty good deals online... but I want to buy in person. And when I say that, I want to buy from somebody who actually knows about archery (perferably compound archery)... I dont want to buy from someone that just knows how to work a till....

So does anyone know where I might find such a shop

oh and Im based in Louth- and willing travel (within reason)...

You could talk to Keith at ASI. Very good service and good prices. There are a few bits that for compound you don't want to go cheap on, I would recommend that you get a good launcher and release aid from the start. As for stabilizers and sight, they have little effect on shooting and can be replaced at anytime. If you are getting a good bow it is worth while getting a decent launcher and release aid while you are at it!

Yeh I have heard some good reviews about ASI. But I checked out the location in google maps and it seems to be very remote. Im relying on public transport so.... that kinda eliminates that :( which is a pity cos I have heard some great reviews about it. If it was in the center of a town I would defo go there at the drop of a hat :)

@micko I saw that site already, and its one of the closer ones to Louth :) Its looking likely that may be the place I will go. However the only thing thats really putting me off is just the fact the site is half functional. With ASI I can see what he has.... and I can see he has plenty of stuff that would interest me. With archery specialist Id hate to go down and find out that his compound selection is limited or that he doesnt carry the sort of compounds Im after....

I wouldn't recommend using either of the websites, I would instead ring them and maybe have a chat, they are not online venders so their websites are just a guide, both however will deliver if you place an order by phone or email. It you want to look a a very up to date online vender then www.altservices.co.uk is the best place!

I'll second altservices, also check out the 2nd hand thread, you may be able to pick up part such as arrow and stabilisers cheaper, even if you want a brand new riser/limbs

If you want to know what kind of bow your getting and have the option of trying out a few before you buy, you should go to Harry in Mayo, if youre willing to travel. He only does traditional bows, but the trip can make a decent weekend. Also check out the cottage that he lets out if you need accomodation while your there, its pretty good value.

Yeh thanks for the advice. I already tried the 2nd hand thread... didnt see very much (or very much posted this year :P ). I reckon I might have a bit more success if I post up a wanted list.

@respectyourbus TO be honest Im not after traditional, its compound Im looking for. And Mayo is a tad far.... but thanks for letting me know all the same. Appreciate it :)

EDIT: I just decided just to open a new thread as its kinda off topic to this one

To be honest, the only shops in Ireland (that I know anyway) are ASI, Shooting Style and FlyBow (Mayo). There are a couple over the border as well. If ya want to try a bow in hand (sage decision! :)) then I'd see about scabbing a lift off someone.

Also, as suggested, ringing them is a good idea as well as they might not have useable stock on hand at any one time. I got one of my compounds from Kieth, once I knew what I wanted he ordered it from his supplier in Holland, so I didn't see it until I had it in hand. There may be some in the shop but only way to find out is to ring or mail.

Do ya have a particular brand / bow in mind? Whatever ya thinking of chances are one of us are shooting it, we can give thoughts on how it shoots and the various bits and bobs that suit it.
