    Hi,

My flight this evening was cancelled a couple of hours ago. I booked a hotel for tonight and tomorrow night with lastminute.com and it is booked as non refundable. I tried contacting the hotel directly but they said I have to go through lastminute. Fair enough, it was a long shot. Is there any avenue I can go down to try and get a full or partial refund on the hotel? Do I have right to compensation from the airline for the cost of the hotel?

I know I can get a full refund on the flight .

    Cheers
    B

The airline has no liability in relation to your hotel booking. If you have travel insurance you should check with them for a possible refund.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that might be the case. Just double checking.

The airline has no liability in relation to your hotel booking. If you have travel insurance you should check with them for a possible refund.

The airline may have a general liability to pay compensation. A leaflet like this is supposed to be available at airports: http://ec.europa.eu/transport/air_portal/passenger_rights/doc/2007/2007_04_04_air_passenger_rights_poster_en.pdf

Your rights are more fully spelled out here: http://ec.europa.eu/ireland/contact_us/faq/air_travel/index_en.htm. It includes this passage:
If your flight is cancelled due to reasons within the airline’s control, the airline should provide you with either a refund of your ticket or alternative transport to your final destination. Under certain circumstances, and if the cancellation is not as a result of a force majeure incident, the airline is obliged to pay you financial compensation of between €250 and €600 depending on the length of the delay and distance of your flight. The airline is also obliged to provide you with meals and refreshments, hotel accommodation, if necessary, communication facilities to enable you to telephone or email and a written statement about your rights as a passenger.
From reports I have heard, it seems that at least some airlines are not claiming force majeure (although I think they should be entitled to) and it is probably worth your while asking about compensation.

I agree that you should also look at what your travel insurance policy (if you have one) covers.
