Check out report below on recruitment of NAMA staff:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2010/0416/1224268445433.html

One recruitee's only term of reference mentioned is that she is daughter of one of the wealthiest builder's in the ROI and the name of her previous employer !!

    How comforting !! :(

Actually how discomforting !! This infuriates me !!

    how is this nepotism?

Is her father hiring people to work in NAMA?

That's the only term of reference that the newspaper has given her.

You have no idea what her qualifications are. She's likely to have extensive property experience if she has worked for her father.

Well perhaps her career credentials could have been mentioned rather than who her pop is!!

But that would never have caused you to get all riled up. Why would the media care about the facts?

Indeed - hence the question marks in my subject title!

it does actually mention who she currently works for

tbf the times doesn't really give much info on the career credentials of the others either

A job should always be given to the most suitable candidate. If that person is related to someone already in the company, then it shouldn't make any difference.

This is just the media grabbing facts and churning them into something bigger.

OP, what exactly is your problem with this lady?

All you know is that she is the daughter of a property developer.
You know nothing about her credentials. Your making an assumption her her bonifides, based on her fathers profession.

This is a thread about nothing.

No specific problem - but would it not have been more relevant in such an article to mention her assumed credentials than who her father is? Or has the Irish Times merely converted its entire Business News section into Social and Personal!?!?

Then, your problem is more to do with the Times, rather than the recruitment of NAMA staff?

Your tabloidesque thread title implies that you are questioning whether NAMA is practicing nepotism, does it not?
Perhaps you should edit the thread title.

they seem dodgy appointments to me tbh particularly this
Another of Mr Mulcahy’s team with experience at Treasury is Mark Pollard, the company’s former development director. Treasury’s prolific borrowings have propelled the firm, which is owned by Johnny Ronan and Richard Barrett, into the Nama top 10, meaning its loans are in the first wave of transfers into the agency.

Massive conflict of interests there I think

The country is so small and corrupt that I wouldn't expect anything less anyway.

They should be looking to hire people from other EU states.

Ireland is a real banana republic, what do you expect?

Assuming it is what it says on the tin, the only question is, is anyone even slightly surprised? We should be taking bets on the propotion of nepotistic appointments in any new FF endeavours, that way at least someone could make an honest buck out of them.

Well this would be the daughter of Ken Rohan, ff benefactor, sole beneficary of tax loopholes for art collections, formerly owner of a company very few would have heard of called RoanKabins.

RoanKabin was purchased by SiteServ in 2007. The chairman of SiteServ is Offaly man and FF donator Hugh Cooney - who Cowen also made Chairman of Enterprise Ireland.
He is also a neighbour of guess who, one Des Richardson.

According to the Times in 2009 RoanKabins was one of the largest renters of portacabins to schools, which even though we had boom it was decided that it was beter to rent temporary portacabins.

    Would you ever credit it.

Of course the connected ones will find the latest pig trough to swill out of, why is that a surprise to anyone.

Oh and to counter the arguement claimed by some that they might be the best people for the jobs, weren't we told that about the heads of our banks, heads of our regulatory authorites and head of Fás ?

I am not allowed discuss …
