Are Canon 5D mkII & 7D batteries interchangeable?

I bought 2 batteries with charger off ebay a while ago - link - and just recently got around to using it as a backup and found that it doesn't work. The battery fits in perfectly and the camera will be on with minimum power after giving a warning that the battery doesn't work with it.

Can anyone confirm if the 5D & 7D use the same batteries and that they should work if switched between cameras?

The charger doesn't charge the original 7D battery also which isn't a good.

It's too late for me to leave negative feedback or make a claim since I purchased this a while before I got to check it all out, but at least it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

The third party batteries should work OK in the 5D2, the reason for the alarm and the battery charge showing low constantly is that the 3rd party battery does not contain the electronics that Canon batteries use to communicate information to the camera re serial number, state of charge etc. But they should power the camera fine and continue to do so for a reasonable period of time even though they appear to be fully discharged on the display.

For the same reason you have to use the supplied charger as the Canon one will not recognise the 3rd party battery (no electronics in the battery), and similarly the Canon battery will not recognise the 3rd party charger. I'd say it's only a matter of time before the battery manufacturers manage to reverse engineer Canons battery management system and emulate it fully.
