Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCI Clutch Problem

Hi there. Has anyone out there ever had a clutch problem in a Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCI? I have on a 08 with only 31k miles on the clock and would love to hear if anyone else had the same problem.

The thing is, I am aware that in the UK there have been several cases of people having clutch problems in these cars, specifically the 2.0 TDCI version, and they managed to get some change from Ford in terms of warranty and/or goodwill. Ford Ireland won't entertain me at all, saying this is down to "conditions of use" and therefore refuse to cover this under warranty. I have been hit with a bill of up to €1,400!!!

The clutch / pressure plate / flywheel contact surfaces all show evidence of overheating and the clutch is pretty worn on the pressure plate side. I am aware, though, that Ford have been having reliability issues with the dual mass flywheel on this 2.0 TDCI engine and the DMF certainly appears pretty loose on my car. I would love if anyone could tell me if a worn DMF could wear down the clutch and if the slipping of that worn clutch could then have caused the overheating??? I know it's a long shot, but I don't see why I should take Fords word on this, especially when they're taking €1,400 from me.

I've just checked all the S-Max and Galaxy's we have on fleet (around 10) and not a single one has any listing for any clutch or flywheel work. They are mainly 1.8TDCi's but a couple are the 2.0TDCi.

Mileage ranges from 30k to 150k so it doesn't look like it's that common a problem.

Loads of call outs for damaged tyres though!

Don't think that would have anything to do with the DMF shaking itself to bits.

If that's the case, it's most likely clutch burnout and would be down to "conditions of use", something most warranties won't cover.
