    Hi all,

Lately there's been a lot of different bird species in my garden that I cant identify easily.

Does anyone know if theres a free app for the iphone that identifies Irish bird species?

    Thanks!

I find a pocket fieldguide good enough for me!

I agree, especially if it's garden birds you're looking for.

However if you must do it the 'high tech' way, the RSPB website has a 'bird identifier' page that allows you to narrow the possible selection by various characteristics ...

Probably won't run on an iPhone though.

I have a few bird related apps on my touch - not specifically for identification but they would be good for that purpose. Just run a search for 'birds'.

I've got the 'Birds of britain and Ireland (pro edition)', an app from birdguides.com
Cost me €19.99 but completely worth it. Handy to have on the ipod touch when out birding.
Also has birdsongs to play - I love it.
    Highly recommend.
But I go out birding alot - away from the garden!

    Here's the link http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/birds-britain-ireland-pro-edition/id350179152?mt=8

Plus you don't need to be online to use it.

Sorry - didn't see that you wanted it for free..

Just add this link from RSPB site to your iphones homepage

    http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdidentifier/form.asp

but you'd need to be online.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the tips! The RSPB one is doing the job well.
