Can anybody tell me, when do we have to start worrying about this RIF import ban??

Cos Im tempted to get some bits and pieces (including, but not limited to, an AEG :D) off of RSOV, but this import ban is a bit of a pain in the ring...

***The answer to this question could already be on boards.ie, but I just need an answer quick...***

I got an AEG on tuesday this week, from Redwolf in Hong Kong, but the courier that delivered it said, not to bother ordering any more, as they're cracking down big time on it. But I dunno how true that is. Spose he has no reason to bullsh*t me, but he did say customs won't be letting anything in soon enough, so it's your call.
    Mark.

there is no answer, the bill in on the book but not being enforced, not much to say other than that

had not heard anything like that myself but could have a grain of truth, i would be rather worried if the first news of this is from couriers company's rather than the iaa thought

the bill regarding the new rules and regs for airsoft has already in passed into law and in place ( on the books as i said ), at the moment thought the import ban section is not being enforced

best bet is to get in contact with the iaa http://irishairsoft.ie/

That basically means that I cant import anything, because with my luck, I'd be greeted by An Gardai at the front door, instead of a UPS dude!

Well like puding said just cos a courier said it, don't make it so. But the end is nigh for importing stuff...unfortunately :(

I presume it's just going to be a ban on guns themselves, and not accessories. Cos I really want that Magpul stock.

You and me both on the bad luck/gardai scenario. Hasn't happened yet, but always worried bout it.

only rifs are effected ( unfortunately the definition of a rif has not been released yet ) check out for faq with answers about parts http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055771105

Fair enough. Well after my most recent experience of importing a gun, I wasn't intending on buying any more from "thar bráid" anyway, seeing as how apparently most of the irish retailers are happy enough to special order (within reason I'm sure) what it is you're looking for.

The only thing that would sway me to chance it is the Socom Gear M200 Intervention. If it ever is released.... :( I'd imagaine even if it does come out, you'd be lookin at around €1000 price tag.

Yeah, if something bad can happen to me, it will!

All though Ive been lucky with Airsoft so far...
(Not so much to do with luck, as the fact that Im ridulously careful (sketchy:)) with them! )

I hear ya. Apparently in here Waterford, it's legal to own them, but illegal to carry them in your car. Again, all heresay from the local airsoft shop, but the superintendant here is a bit funny when it comes to guns, real or airsoft, so he'd only love to make an example of someone, and take em to the cleaners.

I wonder if that's anything to do with this?

"They could've had a bullet in the breach and been playing Russian Roulette."

Is the issue that they were smoking hash or that the had an imitation firearm? Cos I dunno bout any of your guns, but bullets don't work in any of mine :)
And they said an Abrakebabra was robbed with a similar weapon. They could have robbed Abrakebabra with a slash hook, bought from a local diy shop. Jesus, ban the scum, not the gun.

"You can't tell the difference with these guns. If you used it in the course of a crime it would then become a firearm. We had a situation in Abrakebabra where these guns were used in the course of a robbery last year. Even the experts are fooled by them."

Im no expert, but I could tell the difference :D:D:D But it would cost to much to educate the enforcers to the difference ;)

Guys time you do some research. Airsoft devices are legal to own and legal to carry in your car where appropiate. Its illegal to have them shown in public. It is legal to transport them to your local legal airsoft site. But have some sense and pack th stuff away safely when your done.

As for imports i dont think you'll end up in jail for importing, you just wont get the stuff so save your money and buy here. Its not that expensive here when you take into account currency, tax importduty, customer service and the time it takes to give advise on a particular device.

For the record, order a 1911 last week from Airsoft Global, arrived at door after 3 days. No problems with customs yet.

I think what I might do, is pass on a new AEG for now...

And just buy some stuff that I probably dont need, but is very cool none the less...

Don't do it man, don't pass on a new AEG!! Get one local if you are worry about importing one. Try the local shops, if they don't have the one you wants, see would they source it for you, or try the adverts on boards!!

See if customs stop the import and pass it to the gardai for testing they could just as easy turn around and say their not even testing it as its illegal to even import them no matter what joule they are and then destroy it! you havent a leg to stand on. If your a gardai and are faced with paper work , keeping track of sending an aeg to test and also dealing with the owner calling wondering where it is OR them saying it illegal and destroying it tbh most gardai will just destroy it but as it is most gardai arent aware of the more "obscure" laws recent or not, if you get a clued up one chances are the aeg will be scrap.
