Favourite/Worst Wrestling Video Game

Okay, so there's been loads...but if you take time to think about it, what are your favourite (and worst) wrestling video game experiences?

    8679_large.jpeg

Some of the more memorable for me were WCW Nitro (which, for a WCW game, wasn't too bad), WWF Attitude, the original Wrestlemania The Arcade Game port on PSX, WWF Smackdown (again the original PSX version) and more recently...well, Legends of Wrestlemania

Some of the more appealing for me would be the sequel to WWF Smackdown on the PSX....which really took away the enjoyment of the franchise....WWF In Your House (excellent 2D action but the character list wasn't as good as the original in my opinion) and the absolutely terrible WCW Backstage Assault - the game that should have never been

I would have included a poll here but there are so many choices that would be pointless and I'd end up forgetting some stuff, but I have included a few screens

I absolutely loved Smackdown 2. Still think it was the best and I played that game to death. Improved on the original in every way, the story mode could get repetitive (especially if you go through about 10 years of it), but I still had no problem playing it. Fantastic game.

As for worst one, that'd take some thinking. Apart from the playing most of the Smackdown games, the only other one I played was WWF Attitude. But I'm not naming that as the worst because I thoroughly enjoyed it at the time

WWF No Mercy on the N64

    What a fcuking game.
Loved all the AKI ones actually. Wrestlemania 2000, WCW/NWO Revenge(and its prequel to a lesser extent)

Worst.....hmmmm........WCW Thunder pissed me off a lot and WWF In Your House was just madness

Have to agree that Smackdown 2 on the Playstation was the best of the Smackdown games. The season mode was great, and I liked the way it included a ranking system for the different belt divisions ensured a good amount of replayability (although I might be confusing it with the firs one). And I think the create a wrestler feature was never so good again.

The new Smackdown Vs Raw games are improving and good fun. Although a re-introduction of a similar season mode to the first two games would improve the series no end. I like the user created content.

Fire Pro Wrestling on the gameboy advance was great fun too.

Extreme Warfare Revenge blew my mind when I first started playing it. Champ manger was my addiction for a long time, and it was fantastic to find a wrestling game with similar ideas behind it. Total Extreme Warfare has expanded on the EWR idea immensely, and are just as addictive.

Poorest games ... well Smackdown Just Bring It was awful, replaced the season mode with a story mode, which was just a silly idea, and could be one within three matches. Oh .. and the second Raw game on the xbox. can't remember if it was the first or second though.

Can't remember the name of it, but ECW's game on the psx was crap, as is TNA Impact.

I always heard great things about No Mercy, unfortunately I didn't own an N64.

As for me I'd agree with paddyirishman and say SD2 was the best game I played, I think that's when the story mode was at its most imaginative.

As for the worst, don't remember which year it was but it was Raw -v- Smackdown where they first introduced GM mode. Absolutely terrible.

The worst game, imo, was SmackDown: Just Bring It. For a game that promised a lot (1st wrestling game on the PS2), it was just awful. It had a story mode/career that last around 30 mins (depending on who you pick) and possibly the worst, repetitive commentary in a wrestling game.

Also, SvR2007 deserves a mention as worst game due to most of the game being re-done due to Benoit. They didn't replace a lot of the parts they took out and it just felt very shallow to me.

The best was probably SmackDown 2: Know your role. That game was just awesome. A pretty good career mode and you'd spend hours at it

    Faves in order are

SmackDown 2 - The best WWF/E game to be made, the variety of matches, the tweaks you can make, & the season mode still remain the best in the series IMO

Here Comes The Pain: Built Upon SD2 but nerfed the season mode, it felt like an updated version of SD2, which is really a win win game.

    Least faves:

SVR 200X series, so poor compared to the old games, too repetive in story lines, & just overall boring. At least the game does a better job at giving mid carders a storyline than actual real life WWE :D

That said, i haven't played SVR2010, i lost confidence after playing 6 crappy WWE games in a row. When it goes to 20 euro i'll buy it.

    WWF No Mercy
    WCW/NWO Revenge
    Fire Pro R Wrestling
    WWF Smackdown 2
WWE Smackdown Here Comes The Pain
    WWE Wrestlemania XIX

My list of favourites. I think Fire Pro may be my all time favourite though, you could have some real killer matches on that.

Loved this game on the DC

Which Smackdown game was the one where you could use other peoples finnishers against them and powerbomb through glass in the back stage area? It would have been on the PS2. I remeber loving that.

Best Wrestling Game - WWF No Mercy (N64)

Worst Wrestling Game - The Simpsons Wrestling :P

EDIT: I thought WCW Mayhem on N64/PS1 was also a very good game.

Legends of Wrestling was an awful awful game, had an awesome roster but the gameplay was horrific..

My personal favourites were Smackdown! Here comes the Pain
and the first Smackdown vs Raw.. They were bloody immense games imo

Maybe it's nostalgia but I too preferred the early versions of the Smackdown Games. I used to buy them every year but I personally felt they got too complicated going into the PS3 era.

Best - Smackdown 2 for PSX. Loved that game. Always used to play into the early hours in the morning when I first got it. It was so addictive.

I liked SD v Raw 08 for the general mode which was alot of fun.

Worst - So many bad ones it hard to name just one. But i'll go for WWF IYH from 96 or something for PSX. Also alot of the SD/SD v RAW from from around 02 - 06 were awful aswell. Alot of bad WCW games also.

No Mercy for the N64 was perfection as was WCW/NWO Revenge(?) :)

Have a soft spot for Royal Rumble for the SNES have to say.

Smackdown 2, Here Comes the Pain and Shut your Mouth were the best of the Smackdown series. The last 4 or 5 have been ****.

TNA is easily the worst I have played though.

All the AKI games on N64, especially WCW/nWo Revenge and Wrestlemania 2000.

That tag team of Jericho and Scott Steiner in Revenge were unbeatable because the Steiner Recliner and Lion Tamer were unable to be broken by the opposition!
