    Hi there,
first post, so hello to everyone.

I need some info on what a married person, unemployed with one child and one adult dependent would get. Neither adult in the family working - one adult has the required contributions, the other has none (as previously worked abroad for 4 years).

Basically heres the situation - I am on a 6 mth contract. I have just found out I am pregnant and my 6 mths is up in May. I haven't told my boss yet that I am pregnant as I am in very early stages. I am a good worker and there is a chance they will keep me on for another 6 mths even in my pregnant state (they have already more or less said that in my review next week I will be offered at least another 3 mths, possibly 6mths, dep on what HO agree to). I think they would probably still keep me on even being pregnant as long as I continue to work as I have been.

However, my main worry is after that what will happen? It is more than likely that they would let me go after the next 6 mth stint - why would they keep me on when I won't be there???

I am now pregnant, and likely in 3-6 mths will be unemployed. No one will take me on 7 mths pregnant so I will not be able to work until after the baby is born. So basically I am facing being unemployed and with a new baby.

my husband is currently unemployed also, although is not in receipt of any benefit as he has no contributions here because he worked abroad for a couple of years. He gets nothing as my dependent because I earn €5.25 over the cut off.

What allowances would I get as a married person, with 1 adult dependent and 1 child dependent? What does that relate to in actual cash terms (i.e how much per week?) I would have enough credits to get 1 year benefit without being means tested. I would hope to be back at work long before that ran out.

We have a mortgage too - I tried to look on the welfare.ie site about mortgage supplements, but got totally baffled!
Basically on a €500 per month mortgage would we get any assistance? What kind of amount (ball park even?)

I am feeling very stressed out at the moment - an unexpected pregnancy and no permanent job! I am actually quite happily surprised at the pregnancy, but I am just petrified of how we will manage when my contract ends. I don't expect to have a lot, but if we just had enough to manage on, pay the bills and feed the baby I would relax a bit - I have no problem budgeting and tightening our belts (we're not on a lot now even with me working, so we're used to it!), I'm just so afraid of getting into arrears on our mortgage and literally not having enough money for the basics the baby needs like a pram, car seat etc.

any advise or assistance would be gratefully appreciated
(P.s pls don't just tell me to go to welfare.ie - been there and I am now more confused than before! maybe its the hormones :P, but I just can't figure it out! I just want to know, cash figure, what I would get! thanks all!)

thanks for that, but we don't have solid fuel heating, only gas and electricity and afaik you have to be unemployed for a good while before you can get this. also I thought child benefit was €150 per month (equiv to €34.62 per week), and this is for everyone, not just unemployed??

yeah I have been on those sites, and I am fairly clear on the €196 + €130 + €29.80 per child.
But it is the mortgage subsidy which has me baffled. In the past I was unemployed for 3 mths, and I got about 80% of my mortgage subsidised. From the link above however it seems only the interest is given.

I suppose I am curious as to what other benefits I may be able to apply for, as TBH all I hear is how some people are living better on the dole than they are working. But from the figures given here I don't see how. I have no choice but to be unemployed for a while due to my situation, but we will be worse off than with me working - how much by depends on how the mortgage subsidy works.
The only upside is that I won't have child care costs !

I have tried contacting the CWO in my area, but can never get an answer. I am working at the moment so in order to see him I will need to take time off!

Feeling very very stressed right now, worrying about how we will make ends meet when I finish this contract, am pregnant, and then worse yet when baby comes along!

I have applied for a medical card, based upon my earnings I would be well within the threshold to get it. Have been waiting 2 mths, have been told it might be another 4 mths. Would being pregnant qualify me to get this fast tracked? I assume a letter from a doctor confirming I am pregnant might be enough?
