Gun-toting granny hits Dublin Airport

"A grandmother is being questioned by gardai after she attempted to board a Ryanair flight to Birmingham with two loaded pistols in her luggage.

Security staff at Dublin Airport noticed the suspicious-looking objects in the 68-year-old’s carry-on luggage as it passed through an X-ray machine shortly before 8pm last night.

A search of the bag was conducted and two loaded 9mm handguns were found, along with a quantity of loose ammunition.

Detectives investigating the incident believe that a relative of the woman may have been threatened at her UK home and the pensioner was hoping that the guns could be used to prevent further intimidation."

Ryanair drives people to do all kinds of crazy things.

Thought she'd be a grandmother in her 30s until I saw the age.

    Impressive.

:D Maybe the plan was to hijack the plane and force the plane to fly to an airport in the actual advertised destination rather than the "Ryanairport" 150 Km away ?

She should have pulled one of the guns on the customs officer & said, "Go ahead punk, make my grey.."

Read this story in the star today

Seems the granny was going over to help her daughter because her daughter was getting hassle and grief from local yobs smashing her windows etc Seeing how the police over there havent bothered when people are suffering anti social behaviour have died of heart attacks & stress from these vandals in england.

if this is the case she was right to try and bring the guns over to her

They don't. No rational person would ever claim they do. They are, however, extremely well suited to solving a small number of specific problems.

Where the devil does a granny find two 9mm pistols anyway? Holdovers from before the 1974 'temporary prohibition'? Maybe husband didn't feel inclined to turn them in.

So fitting punishment for smashing a window is to be shot with not one but two guns by a granny?

    You're sick and twisted :P

So What should the poor woman do ?? sit there in her house while she & her family are being terrorised out of their lives ?? ring the police " we'll call out to you later"

    Typicial do gooder liberal talk

I Never said she should shoot these "poor unforuntate vandals" just a show of force maybe enough to keep these vandals away

Otherwise my absolutely hilarious reference to Ryanair's history of poor customer satisfaction should have been quite 'gettable', no?

yes, where the feck did she get two 9mm guns? did she have a license for them? can you bring your guns with you on holiday? (seriously, can you?)

No idea, but in fairness she was packing for her holiday.

Are you asked if you packed to kill?:pac:

Or just if you have anything to declare.:p

I think she was from a criminal family and "known to the gardaí".

What a fool had she taken a car and the ferry she would have gotten away with it! Most likely Ryanair objected due to the gun being overweight.:D

the most amazing part of this story is that security actually found the guns, this must be a first for airport security

Depends on the laws in the other country. Almost invariably requires declaration at Customs, usually with forms and often pre-arrangement, but as far as I know every country in Europe except for the UK allows the import of pistols by visitors. Of course, you can't just store it in your hotel, there are often storage requirements. When travelling on holiday within the US I routinely fly with a firearm to shoot at the other end with my friends.

Bizarrely, we'd find a firearm in carry-on luggage about once a week in Oakland. Damned if I know how so many people are so daft.

She could have left the guns at home, a granny in a Nissan Micra is a lot more dangerous than a granny packing two 9 mil's.

It is understood she accepted responsibility for possession of the guns.

and yet she was allowed to walk free from the cop shop without charge for possession of illegal / unlicensed firearms, WTF?

Her and her family are well known to police, they aren't angels. Where do you think she got the guns from?

Well looks like she is NOT Harry Callaghan's [dirty Harry] granny which is a pity. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,789 ✭✭✭grizzly

She'll not do time for it. It's sad that she felt it necessary to carry weapons with her to protect her family. Either she had very little fate in the police or perhaps she was too frequently on the wrong side of them.

What's sad is that she bred a school of such incomplete, destructive idiots.

I assume that something rubbed off.

I'm fairly sure Brum is notorious for gun crime. A granny with a gun on a weekend trip would probably just escalate things to a level beyond said granny

Well I don't check that sh!t, I just assumed it happened in the last few hours. Why was the thread resurrected? And how long did it take that person to even find the thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,789 ✭✭✭grizzly

I didn't want to start a new thread when there is a perfectly god thread here. Some day we'll run out and then you'll thank me.

I'm inclined to agree. It's directly relevant to the old thread, an update to it, and makes more sense in context to resurrect it. Necrothreads are not automatically bad. I'm sorry that the wheels of justice don't turn quickly enough to allow an update to the status before the thread is considered 'old'

How about Nanny Brown. Named after Harry Brown but obviously the female version.
