Next sunday galway play cork in a meaningless hurling league match-both sides have already qualified for the final
Anyone agree that these two matches should be played on a home and away basis with the agreggate score to decide the winner. This would make the games far more interesting for the fans and players alike

No, you can't change the rules of a competition halfway through just to "make it more interesting." Which in itself is debateable.

I wouldn't agree with an aggergate score decideing the league title, but I do think they should play for the right of home advantage for the final or even toss a coin. I think the GAA would benefit more by hosting it at one of the competing finalist home venue. COME ON THE REBELS!!!

Back to back victories against Galway will do very nicely.... or we could be nice ( like the footballers) and leave them win the first one. Corcaigh Abú

It's not ideal the way the fixtures worked out. But hammering Cork twice in a week will do for me!

Anyone know if the Cork team have come back from their warm weather training yet. If not, the game on Sunday might not go ahead.

I think that this Sunday is no more than a challenge match. Can't see the Galway boys losing the Final tbh

Agreed. Galway by 5 or so points, they will be the main challengers to KK for the All-Ireland imo.

How many from the Cork and Galway teams named for Sundays game would ye expect to start come championship time ?

Of this 15, I'd expect Ollie Canning will start in the championship, and I'd imagine John Lee will also. After that, Eoin Lynch, Adrian Cullinane, Aoungus Callanan, Andy Smith and Niall Healy will all be in contention for a starting place. There's alot of competition for places in the Galway squad at the moment which is a good thing (though of course it's only a good thing if the management actually have an idea of what their best 15/20 actually is)

Otherwise you're chopping and changing for the sake of it. I've been saying for the last couple of years that what we have in Galway is a huge number of good hurlers, probably only Kilkenny would have as many. But what we're lacking is enough 'very good' or 'great' hurlers, those players that will make the difference, that will win you an All-Ireland. We could easily field two or three teams in the championship and they'd all be competitive, but finding one that's good enough to win it is another matter.

Cork have 5 (plus probably one more on the bench), Galway maybe double that. I'd expect the Galwegians to give out a right hammering.

Given the two lineups, I would certainly expect a Galway victory, that said when the players know what is at stake ie. nothing, Cork could win as they have more players trying to impress. Apart from getting an injury, I really do not care about the match. The final, obviously , will be a different kettle of fish. Galway are capable of knocking KK out of the championship, I do not think Cork are. But that will be in the summer. Currently, Cork are playing a good brand of hurling and are certainly capable of winning the final.

Yesterday's result was pretty meaningless, though the game itself was a useful excercise in giving some of the fringe players a chance to stake their claim.

The league final promises to be a god game though, and I'd say there won't be much in it either way. I'm glad we're playing Cork and not Kilkenny, as Galway may well meet KK twice in the Summer and that's enough. Beating them now in a league final wouldn't really prove much

I'd fancy Galway to win this one narrowly, but I do think Cork are on the way back and when KK are finally knocked off their perch Cork will be as likely to do it as anyone else. Maybe not this year though. As for Galway, it's the usual story. Loads of ability and would beat anyone on their day etc etc. But now where have I heard that one before!

Seven points yesterday, I'd imagine it will be double that with Joe back. :(

You're doing your best to talk up Galway Orizio! But I don't think it will be anything like as one-sided as that. Galway will have JC back alright plus a few more, but the Cork team will also be a fair bit stronger than yesterday.

Nah, Curran, Gardiner, the O'Connors, Donal and Sean Og, are well past it, as their despicable strike and treatment towards Gerald Mac proved.

Well I'd agree with you that that group of players won't win another All-Ireland, but I think the Cork team that takes the field on Sunday week will be well capable of putting it up to Galway. Though realistically this year the AI is probably between KK and Tipp again with Galway the only team that might stop them (though it's hard to see Galway beating both Kilkenny and Tipp to be honest).

True enough, there's a great Galway team here and they can't complain about experience now, they've got plenty of games under their belt and they have plenty of mistakes to learn from, getting knocked out by Waterford last year after having them beaten was a disgrace. And they proved well enough against Cork last weekend that there's plenty of talent on the panel and it's by no means a one man show as some people would suggest.

I'll be very disappointed if Galway don't at least get to the final this year and I could see them winning it. I think Tipp will be the biggest stumbling block, because we have the number of Kilkenny, we're the last team that knocked them out of the Championship remember :)
