guys i recently picked up a new laptop.
i installed iTunes to the new laptop.

i copied the iTunes folder from the My Music folder on my old laptop.
i paste'd the iTunes folder into the My Music folder on my new laptop.

now iTunes opens and all the music is listed but if i try double click a song to play it, it says the iTunes could not locate the song and gives me an option to locate it now.

any ideas what i have to do?

    thanks.

In iTunes, try going into Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and set the "iTunes Media Folder location" to the folder you have your music in. The path to your iTunes folder must be different on your new laptop (new username maybe?)

yeah just realised its something to do with the paths.

do i need to copy my whole music collection aswel as the iTunes folder?

Work through this step by step and you can't go wrong.
Did what you did a while back and wrecked my head for a whole night. Started from scratch again and followed instructions here and worked a treat. Took maybe 30 mins to complete.

    Not necessarily...
Do you still have access to your old laptop?
If so, start iTunes on it and right-click on any song in your library, then choose 'Show in Windows Explorer'. If the path shown in the address bar does not include 'iTunes' or 'iTunes Music', then it's probable that the songs (mp3s) in your old library weren't actually in the iTunes folder, but in a different location and the iTunes folder was just pointing to the actual mp3 folder...

Hope this doesn't sound too complicated, so have a go at this and get back with the details of the path in the address bar...
