Hey, looking to get out Saturday morning for a round of golf with a mate, both of us not playing that long and both playing off mid 20's handicap. Have been looking on the net for the last few hours but there is such a large variety of courses and prices and reviews it hard to no where to go!

Hoping to spend about €30 each on green fees and based in North Kildare so max travel would be up to an hour! Only courses I would rule are Rathcore in Enfield and Deer Park in Howth, 2 great courses but only played them recentley and want to try somewhere new!

    Any feedback appreciated.

I would recommend Grange Castle in Clondalkin. Not too tough and very enjoyable.

Are visitors welcome there on weekend mornings, any idea of cost also?

    Thanks

Don't think you will have much choice at this stage with the good weather and all. Try http://www.gui.ie/club_search.asp?pid=10&area=1 and call around for any availability. There might be a few slots open in the afternoon.

    Good site to use ^

For around €30 I'd go for one of ...

    Corballis (Links)
    Grange Castle
    Dublin City

    in Dublin.

Cost is €32 at weekends I think. Give them a buzz, there may be a comp on Sunday morning. As others have suggested, the good weather will mean courses will be packed this weekend, so better get booking early...

Great course, but really tough. Maybe not the best choice for a mid-20s handicapper. I've played it twice. Had one miserable experience a few years back and a great round last summer. I had improved a fair bit in the meantime, which helped.

How's about Naas G.C, I always enjoyed the place and there's playability for all levels.

+1 For Dunmurry Springs, nice course. Someone said it is tough, off the whites its grand, pretty short, but if you do struggle play off the greens. Like I said nice pleasant track and cheap.

After that I would say Luttrellstown but its tough, so dont worry too much how you score, however one of the best parklands in Dublin at a great price. South County is a nice track some interesting tee shots 10 & 12 spring to mind. Its an enjoyable course, nice day out if you get me, not sure of the price of green fees.

Moate / Mount temple are only a skip down the motorway & both are fairly easy to play

dont know about availability but for around €25 - €30 you should check out Knockanally, havn't played it since last year, a lot of people don't like it but i think it has a great feel to it

Think all 3 of them are above €50 and as my mate that plays with me is out of work at the moment its hard enough to get him out anywhere, Dunmurry looks good will keep it in mind for the future!

Grange castle is €32 for non-members. Timesheets fill up extremely quickly so would say you'd be lucky to get out at this stage. Members only till approx 10am as far as i know

Craddockstown wouldn't be too far away. Doing offers of €40 early bird special, Fri - Sun...

I like the Lakes Course in City-west. You should be able to get it for less than €30 quid

Not everyones cup of tea as its quite short with a lot of par 3s, but i like it

    Thanks for all the replies!

Grange Castle, Royal Tara and Dunmerry Springs were all booked out but got Knockanally in the end, €30 fee and only about 20 mins from my house so happy with that.

Will try out some of the courses recomended here over the summer as I'm hoping to get out every weekend its dry and like trying different places all the time!

Great course really enjoyed it, didnt play too good, somehow managed to score on index 1, 2 and 3 and scratch a load of the lower index holes! 1st is a great hole and so is I think 10 and 13 where you tee off from a raised tee box.

Course seemed in good nick no complaints about it at all (dont have a lot of experience on golf courses so could seem to be good to me and a more accomplished golfer would think its not)

Overall really enjoyed it, got a bit sunburnt as it was some day on Saturday and couldnt think of anything id rather be doing than be out on the course.

Might ring Grange Castle and see if I can get out there next weekend!

Yeah 17 and 18 are just long but not much else to them, hit my best tee shot of the day on 17 so enjoyed that but they arent the best 2 holes and think 16 is just a flat par 3. There was another tricky par 3 think it was 11 that was really good! Enjoyable course, just checked the society I just joined and they are playing it in September so looking forward to playing it again!
