Water Charges & FLUORIDE dangers

    Hello All,

I have done some research on fluoride in our drinking water recently.

Ireland and part of the UK are the only European countries to continue to fluoridate drinking water.

Seeing as we will soon be paying water charges, perhaps now is the time to have our tap water at standards we are satisfied with, and not contain potentially harmful toxins.

    Population in 2006: 4,239,848
Cost of fluoridation in 2006: €3,254,062
    (http://www.hse.ie/eng/about/PersonalPQ/PQ/2007_PQ_Responses/Febuary_2007/Feb_20_/John_Gormley_PQ_6383-07_Cost_of_Water_Fluridation_in_2006.pdf)

    Population in 2010: 4,459,347
My estimated cost of fluoridation based on 2006 figure: €5,810,262

If this 5.8million was instead spent on repairing all the damaged water pipes in Ireland which allow more dangerous toxins into the drinking water...

I haven't really included many facts/research/opinions on fluoride in this post as I would encourage you do even just do one google search and form your own opinion before entering the poll.

Please post your findings below and reference them where possible!

    Thanks:)

check out the york review on water fluoridation. have you conclusive proof of fluoride dangers?

the amount of money saved by preventing tooth decay outweighs the amount spent on fluoridation.
also, the water charges will be based on a meter system. if you don't wish to use mains water then you won't be charged.

Fluoridated water has been conclusively proven to be beneficial. There are no proven bad side effects of a correctly fluoridated water supply. That is all I'm saying.

This thread will not turn into a bash the dentists thread, or pseudoscience thread. Everybody has been warned.

The benefits of fluoride have been proven and there is no evidence to suggest any adverse health affects.

However there is an argument that is is mass medication and we should have the choice whether it is in the water or not. Ireland is almost unique as a state in providing fluoridated water.

The argument now is that there are so many other sources of fluoride and the population is better educated so maybe it is not needed anymore. I hate to see the usual scaremongering that goes with fluoridated water and it gets in the way of rational debate.

The real benefit is that it helps everyone whether they like it or not. Those that have good dental health probably dont need it. Those in lower socioeconomic groups or at high risk of decay are those that need it the most and are least likely to use alternative appliacations of fluoride, maintain oral hygiene or attend a dentist. So by removing it from the water most people won't be affected one way or the other but those at highest decay risk will get even more decay

Great debate!? You must work for the government.

It has never been tested for starters and many recent studies prove it has no benefit for a teeth.
I am not paying for a water supply treated with a neurotoxin!
