This sort of thing should be available from co-ops and farm shops:

I remember connaught gold co-ops used to lend those out for free if you bought your wire from them. Don't know if they still do though.

remember this from new zealand, mighty job just put it in the ground and pull away the wire, that high tensile wire can be a cnut when it goes wrong

I know someone who made something like that up himself
Medium tensile wire is a lot easier work with in the same gauge.

Wish I'd had one of those a few months ago - myself and the missus did the fencing ourselves ...... you should have seen her hands after it!

Easy enough to make one with an old spoked wheel off an old implement like a tiller,
cut the rim off at the end of the spokes.
you weld about a foot of 2'' pipe on to a plate,
the top of the pipe passes through the hub allowing the wheel to rotate with the roll of wire held on top.
Weld a 4 inch pointed bit of re-bar on the bottom of each corner of the plate to allow whole thing to stand in a field.

I'll try a few photos tomorrow and put them up if net will let me load them....
They're called a spinning jenny if you're looking for one.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
