Reasonably Priced Orthodontic Treatment

    Hi folks.

I'm looking into getting braces, my teeth have slowly marched out of place over the years and I'm starting to feel conscious of them. I don't have a huge amount of cash to spend on treatment, but it is important to me that I get them looking reasonably decent, so I'm wondering what the most cost effective plan for braces would be.

As far as I know, I'm not suitable for the new invisalign and inman aligners and the like. I've checked their sites and read reviews and it looks like they only have a mild effect on basically straight teeth. I need a bit more pushing and shoving done than I think they could cope with! Besides, quotes I've seen for them are more expensive than I can afford.

I'd be happy with a set of train tracks, I'm not too proud for that! ;) I'm not looking for a quick fix either, I'd be willing to wear them for as long as it takes.

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any reasonably priced orthodontists or treatments for me. I'm based in Dublin, but I'd be willing to travel a fair distance for the best price! I'm not too pushed about going overseas though. Horror stories!

    Cheers!

    Hi fish bloke

If you want to get an idea of specialist orthodontic practices in Ireland look at www.orthodontics.ie

For metal braces upper and lower expect to pay 3500 to 4000, assuming you are an adult. In the North it would be about 3000

Make sure it is a specialist providing the care and best of luck, I have yet to treat a patient that regretted getting their teeth straightened! good luck

Thanks for the advice day dreamer!

I will make sure I go to a specialist. I've noticed that lots of the clinics offering the newer treatments offer them and only them. Makes you wonder if they have proper orthodontic training in the first place. I'd rather go to a trained professional who knows what they're doing, rather than buying into what *may* be a money making scheme for some.

    And you're right, I doubt I'll regret it! :D

    Just got a decent quote from a clinic in Armagh;
Fixed braces, between £800 and £1200 per jaw, depending on extractions required, etc. Sounds very good to me! :D

Thats 3000 euro + days off work + travel costs. I think thats most orthodontists in the south would match or beat that price easily and you get 20% tax back. Shop around more, North does not = bargain anymore

Do you think? I think what was putting me off about getting it done down here was the fact that, if I were to shop around I'd have to pay everyone I went to a consultation fee. I've found that folks down here appear to be a bit reluctant to give you an example of their costs without seeing you first. If everyone I went to gave me a massive estimate and I decided to try elsewhere, I'd have half of my bduget spent before having any work done! ;)

I understand your point.....Remember braces will have to be adjusted once a month or so ,as such a local orthodontist is really handy, also how can you get a estimate without a orthodontist seeing your teeth, its just low balling to get you in the door. Any assesment worth its salt will cost money as x-rays are involved and models, ring first....ask for a very rough guide for upper and lower fixed braces for 36 months,

I see what you mean, good advice! I'll try a few more locally within the next week or so.

    Hi
most orthodontists will give you an idea of fees over the phone. Many have prices on websites too!

I know two orthos in the west that will do ceramic braces (top and bottom) for approx 2800.
    Regular braces are approx 2500.

Obviously that's not the exact price, but it's definitely under 3000 for ceramics.

PM me if you want to know more.

I would find it very difficult to believe a specialist orthodontist could do upper and lower ceramic appliances for less than 3000 given how expensive they are to buy.

2500 for metal appliances sounds like a non-specialist price given that it is less than the cost of treatment in the North or UK

It's true, I can give you both names by PM.

One of them is treating me with incognito (upper only) for 3900.

Both specialist orthos, one trained in America, not sure about the other one.

Don't know why other orthos are not matching their prices, but oh well.
