TV Licence question

Ok I wasnt sure where else to put this.

I pay my TV licence yearly like a good person even though I dont like it.

My licence runs out at the end of April and I will be moving to Cork in the middle of April. However, due to unsure-ness with contracts and jobs where I'll be moving to (long story), I may only be there for a few months. As yet I dont know whether I'll be renting, or staying in a hotel for a few months. I really dont know yet.

Is there any way to pay the TV licence for just the month of April? All I can see on their websites and everywhere is a payment for a year, or a direct debit per month that applies for a year.

Anyone any ideas? I really dont want to pay a years worth for just one month. And with regard to the letter of the law, if I remove my TV from the house and just put it in the car, could I still get in trouble? And as I understand it, computer monitors are not yet counted, is that true?

A Tv license is transferable , before I moved home 3 years ago I just pay out on the TV license at my old address. After about 3 months at my new address the license inspectors knocked at my door I explained and showed him the license with my old address on it. I can't remember if I had to change the license address at the post office but I know I paid nothing extra.

An post site might have more details on this subject , I'm sure it's a common thing they've to deal with.

    Hope this helps

Edit : You can change personal/address detail if you move home with an post " https://www.tvlicence.ie/Homepage.aspx "

If the OP ends up living in a hotel for a couple of months they have no way of getting a refund on the licence for the months in question.

Strictly speaking if you have a TV set in your car you need a TV licence for the
car (IN ADDITION TO any licences you may need for your house)

As for computer monitors it used to be the case that they didnt need a licence however in Ireland there is a bit of a question mark over that one at the moment

    Basically the OP's options are

    1) Renew TV licence anyway
    2) Find a friend/relative willing to look after your TV until you get sorted
    3) Remember (despite anything they may tell you) you dont have to let a TV licence inspector onto your property on give them your name. In fact you dont have to speak to them at all (other than telling them to get off the premises)
