Properties of a Single Crystal & Crystalline Solid

I done a mock exam recently and one question asked for two properties associated with a single crystal.

I stated, "no grain boundaries" and "crystal lattice is unbroken".

Though apparently the teacher was looking for an answer relating to them being hard and also to crystal planes.

I was wondering if anyone knew exactly what the answer might be using these two properties?

Also, one question asked why crystalline solids are more stable than non crystalline solids, and I stated because they have long range order. Though apparently what they were looking for was an answer which included "more bonding".

Would anyone know exactly what such an answer might entail?

    Thanks very much :)
