    hey people,
didnt know exactly what category to put this under but im looking to build a large tank for my gerbils 1000mm x 500mm x 500mm approx.
i was looking at getting perspex sheets, cutting and bonding them. anyone know where to get perspex (or even better; polycarbonate) sheets for free/cheap? sourced at local builders merchants and 4ft x4ft 4mm sheets were €50! might as well go out and buy an aquarium at that price.
by the way, this would be my first attempt at anything like this.
if anyone has advice on this it would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance

    Alright matey

I know a lad selling a large terrarium, about 7 feet in length pm me if you're interested but it would be around 100 euro. YOu're not building an aquarium (thank god), it doesn't have to be water tight for gerbils.

I presume you want perspex to make it easier to see the chappies running around on the inside. Sorry I've no idea where you'd source cheap sheets of sturdy colourless plastic, your prices from the builders providers sounds about the same as B&q.

some of the guys in pets and animals might have an idea about building terrariums, maybe the lads here or in DIY would know about perspex/equivalent.

ya, dont use glue for joining the sheets of perspex. build an outer supporting frame out of wood which just holds the sheets in place. you know the way gerbils munch everything. you dont want them eating glue.
sorry no further info. sounds great what you are doing for the gerbils. cages tend to be so small and gerbils love to run and jump. good luck
