An elderly neighbour is offering his 2001 Rover 75 for sale which he has had from new. Its a diesel automatic with the BMW engine and has only 18K miles up. Would welcome any suggestions as to what I should offer him for it.
    Thanks in advance!:)

No they're not. And the 75 Diesel is particularly easy to get parts for.

+1 with what Barr said, it's a great car, 2500-2750 would be a steal for that car.

€2.5K seems so cheap for such a fresh motor

That is the pick of the 75's IMO, BMW engine, Mitsubishi turbo, Jatco gearbox, with none of the general problems you'd be wary of on the 3 series or 75

Bah, should have removed the bit where you said they're gone in my quote. I was specifically referring to your quote where you said parts are hard to get.

What kind of service history does the car have, was it serviced anually? Was is the body work like on it? Low mileage and one owner might look great on paper but if the car only had the oil changed twice in 9 years then it may not be the great buy it appears to be.

Generally parts are available but there are a few issue. For example, was looking for a windscreen washer pump for a 75. Lots of people listing it for sale in uk but no stock available & no timeframe on stock either. That can be annoying but as I say in general, everything is available from body panels to service kits.
I think they are a fabulous car & for the money, it would be hard to do better.
If you buy, check the drain from the ECU which is located beneath the windscreen. They all block & cause the ECU to get flooded. You could be talking value of car to get put right. As nice as that diesel one would be, I cant see it being worth more than 2k.

Put in on donedeal.ie at 2.5k and it will be gone within a day - I'm convinced it would!

Buy it, the car will last a long time and the engine for 200 k miles easily.
