Importing/Exporting/VRT

I'll try and keep this short and hopefully clear :)

I'm from the north and had a northern reg car. I imported it almost 2 years ago, paid VRT, changed the plates, got taxed, insured, VRT'd etc.

If I decide I want to move back to the north, I guess I have to "export" my car from the Republic and "import" it back into the north. Before I imported it to the Republic originally I checked with the tax people in the north and I don't believe I'll have to pay any sort of import duty if I decide to bring it back. I'll just have to get it taxed, insured and MOT'd.

Is it easy to import it back to the north/export it from here? Also, should I eventually end up wanting to move back to the republic, can I import the car again and if so, would I have to pay VRT again?

I don't usually move about that much, but my job isn't permanent and as such, I need to consider the option of moving home should the work situation collapse here.

    Thanks.

No VRT to pay if you import it back down south, they will reissue you with your old registration number.
