    Hi all,

I am planning to go back to do my H.Dip next September and would like to know what my entitlements are (if any!) as regards to fees, grants etc.

I have been working for the past 3 years, am single and my job contract is ending in the summer.

Anybody able to point me in the right direction perhaps?

    Thanks

    Mfitzy.

Technically your financial situation as of this year will mean that you probably are not entitled to anything because from your p21/60 it will appear that you have sufficient funds to support yourself.

However you will have to plead your case to them. I did this this year successfully. What I did was
    • Explained that I would be unavailable to get part time job as workload is so heavy.
    • Am technically working so not entitled to JSA( Jobseekers Allowance)
    • Have been working so not entitled to BTEA (Back to Ed allowance - need to be 6 months on dole)
    • Will be part time college, part time working so not entitled to SIA (Supplimentary income)
    • Sell the 'young-professional' card. Tell them you want to be a sucess in this country as a young professional and need their help.

Any proof of this is good, ie: letter from school saying that you are not paid for your hours.

    Forms come out mid-late July.

The grant will be means tested on your income for 2009 afaik.

If you are over 23 and living on your own, only your income will be assessed.
If you are living at home, or if you are under 23, your parents income will be assessed also.

If you have no children, the max your income can add up to and still get something (ie 50% fees paid) is €51380.

There is also the option to make a "change in circumstances" application which is a little more complicated.

Check out www.studentfinance.ie for good info.

I only live with one parent while I have no financial contact with the other, would I still be accessed on both parents income?

    No.

You need to prove that your parents are separated and that there is no financial help from your mother/father. This may involve getting an affadavit - it did in my case.
