    Hi All

I am thinking of buying oil as a medium term investment.

In your opinion what is the best way of doing this? I currently hold both BP and Royal Dutch Shell shares that are paying nice divis and are preforming well since i bought them last year.

Are ETFs the way to go with oil?

Any help as always is appreciated.

Hey Displaced. I'm holding off until it's down to 50-60 dollars a barrel before I buy into oil shares. I am expecting a nice slide down before it goes back up. Plenty of good companies to then buy into.

    That's my 2cents for you.

Trying to invest in commodities can be difficult as the effects of contango, and backwardation will reduce the correlation of your returns with that of the underlying commodity. This is true of futures and etfs

there is an article here that provides some more info on what dunkamania mentioned in last post. Worth a read for those interested in gaining exposure through oil etfs / etns and their pitfalls
