    Hi,

I want to register a .com URL, which has the word Microsoft in it.

The website will not be attacking Microsoft or anything like that, it's good-willed.
Is this allowed does anyone know ?

    Thanks

Even if the site praises MS, they would most likely sue to protect their trademark...

it should be fine affiliate marketers buy domains with product names all the time these are usually trademarked

it may not technically be legal i dont know either way but the chancees of it coming back to haunt you are very very slim

in fact the more i think about it the more i think you will be fine, if i want to set up a site called microsoftreviews.com there is nothing microsoft can do about it

Please don't give out advice like that - even if you mean well by it. Using a trademark name is illegal and Microsoft will bring that person to court if they have to. It might take weeks or months but MS will hunt you down! Plus their European HQ is in Dublin, so I am sure someone there will get on the case quickly enough. If you were living in a 3rd world country where the laws are not that strong regarding the Internet / Trademarks, then there is a chance to get away with it for a while but not here.

Get a written permission from that company of that name your going to use and tell them the plan you have in mind, which if they agree to then your all clear but don't leave the door open for your operation to fail due to not asking. You could always set up a blog and write reviews of company products, etc.

Don't be silly! Microsoft will sue the ass off the OP if he uses their trademark in any way that they don't licence.

in that case any site that has a trademark mentioned on it in anyway be it in the domain name or in a review or anything is open to legal action

    thats simply not true
